Evolith system coming to Final Fantasy XI

Nov 5th 2009 1:08PM (Massively)
Good change, customization is one of the things I think FFXIs gear system really lacks, and now with two ways of achieving it, I think they are well on their road. Hopefully some of this experimentation with systems will allow FFXIV to have a good solid itemesation base. :-)

Also:
I understand it's not original... but why link wow?
why not Diablo..
or FF7,
or the DOZENs of games that did it before wow(ever remember 'runing' items)...
seriously did anyone at massively play games before WoW came out or is it the only thing we're capable of referencing info to nowadays?

That ship is an Abbadon...
not an Armageddon: http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Armageddon
and the crystals that it's using look to be Radio (t1 crystals).. though the guns coudl still be t2 kind of a waste heh.

Why you should be playing Final Fantasy XI: Level sync

Dec 30th 2008 6:07PM (Massively)
mmm I wouldn't say people are ignoring high level areas on Quetzelcoatl, most of my level syncs are 50+ in ToAU areas.^^ heh, though admittedly 30~50 (aka. garliage, crawlers nest, esat altepa) is a lot of peoples 'most hated' locations, so i'm not surprised those levels are trying to get out of those zones XD. A shame though because they are a good change of scenery.

Imho aside from making more stats scale, there really isn't anything else that should be done to the system, if they gimp it in any way (even a little more then it is now) a lot of us in the higher tears will start saying forget it and not play with our friends in the lower tiers.

just my thoughts. ^^ LevelSync system is AMAZING XD

The Daily Grind: Will the new campaign bring you home to FFXI?

Dec 16th 2008 12:35PM (Massively)
I came back during Welcome home last year... just beacuse i missed having a PvE challenge in my mmo career (meaning: I don't like WoW, didn't quite like WAR[because it was too much like WoW], and didn't quite click[prolly cause of the bugs] with AoC), when you come back you get a 10 times use 100% exp increase ring... so it's not entirely blank of benefits :-P This is more aimed at those of us who see it and remember what FFXI is, and then look at what MMOs we're playing and yearn back for Vanadiel, not those that have moved onto simpler modern EQ-style(wow) MMOs. (excluding some other games like NavyField, EVE, SGalaxy, etc.), of which FFXI is not a part of. Some of us like the feeling of teamwork and tactics that goes along with the game, and the inability to solo is actually nice, as all roadblocks don't feel like speedbumps, but actual walls that must be surpassed with the help of your fellow players. Plus the whole multi-lingual thing is a feature i'd been wanting in other MMOs i play (i'm not exclusive to FFXI)..anyways

The interesting thing I found last year when I was coming back is there where a decent amount of us coming back and re-learning new content at once so it provided for a nice 'community' of returnees, so it's not entirely a bad idea... just my two cents as someone that took up the offer, flame all you want.

The Daily Grind: Which MMO should go away?

You know if you're social enough and meet/talk to people in FFXI, you can prove that you're a good player. No real need for 5 other friends one or two will do. Many of us have forged alliances and made brothers of those we met in Vanadiel. I play many MMOs, but as many times as i've said this, it bears saying once more, " There is no other game with more accomplishment then FFXI". I think some people look at the grind and see nothing else, but it's important to see the game around the grind, the teamwork it takes to get past it and the smiles on the face of those that stand as champions onto the end challenges.. This isn't some Korean MMO where you stand there alone(or grouped w/ other people that let exp flow into you) and bash your hotkeys till you level up, just to goto the next area and bash hotkeys. This isn't wow where you forsake the existance of those around you untill 70 repeatedly grinding quests. This is an experience about the people be they Japanese, American or European.

Stand proud fellow men and women of Vanadiel, we are of a world some fear and some shun for their weakness. I expect some WoW player to respond to this with "WoW is a social experience look at Raids"... I was tiered in WoW:BC... be honest with yourself, WoW is a game where healers watch hp bars and everyone else presses hotkeys, when have you need to look to those at your side..truly?

EVE Online calls RMT evil

Apr 9th 2008 8:17PM (Massively)
I do haveto say I've always liked this system, it supports those less fortunate and wanting to play the game(mostly students) and gives people who don't have enough time to grind IG money a way to transfer their RL effort into fun w/o imploding the game economy. Wish more games supported something of the sort.

Are MMOs killing single player RPGs?

Apr 6th 2008 9:29PM (Massively)
the saddest thing is there are some dynamics/storytelling elements that just CAN'T be in an mmo (such as world changing, and having the main character be the savior of the universe, etc.)... but i have a strange feeling just like RTSes and Tactics games, when the well dries up and people start begging developers will bring about more :-) aside from Squeenixes offerings.
