How one indie studio burns $15K per month (or: this graph looks like Pac-Man)
Mar 1st 2012 11:54AM (Joystiq)You said, "this graph represents the minimum cost of running the company"
So you guys aren't really making $15.63/hr. That's the lowest amount you guys would need to live. Because if you were really working for that much, the company would be a fail.
Bottom line: this graph is a completely fictional slice of an unknown amount. As the other guy said, it doesn't really make sense.

Feb 24th 2012 11:12AM (Joystiq)Right! That poster is terrible. You can make it retro but well designed. And he has the nerve to mention fantastic designers like Saul Bass and Olly Moss. The game might be cool but he needs to get help with graphic design.

Feb 20th 2012 12:35PM (Joystiq)You have no idea what you're talking about.
I've worked in corporate america for decades. Layoff rarely are based on skill. They are mostly based on numbers. If you a highly skilled person on a group that isn't making money, or is seen are redundant you can be let go as easily as "unskilled" people. Also highly skilled valuable people are often let go because they have an opinions opposing management. Ask anyone.
Bottom line: layoffs can be non-intuitive and often are purely subjective. Also the common cycle is: layoff people from certain position and then a little while later hire new people for the same position. Most people don't even realize this is happening. This is one way of getting rid of people that aren't yes men.
