Sample Final Fantasy Versus XIII music in Theatrhythm DLC form

Apr 2nd 2012 11:28PM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified)

The problem isn't that there are people who don't like the games. It's that some will bash them at every opportunity, as if those games waltzed into their home, personally murdered their mother and shaved their cat.

It's gotten to the point where my main game-related haunt (which is very mellow and chill by nature) has people who outright say that outside that community or LiveJournal itself, they're afraid to post positive comments about FFXIII or its successor, due to that being insta-flamebait. What does that say about the community at large?

SimCity requires internet connection to play, will be sold outside of Origin

@sigma8

Thing is... that really DOESN'T do much to prevent piracy, perhaps other than delaying the scene groups a bit. One time, an idiot drilling for a burst water pipe severed the underground Internet cables and left our entire apartment complex offline for almost three weeks. What did I do? Got the cracked versions for all my games that required online play at all times. Like hell I was just going to sit there and twiddle my thumbs after paying an arm and a leg for them.

This is the only recommendation I can give, if you hit against such a game and what to play it when the Internet is crap/nonexistent. The anti-piracy brigade can scream all it wants, but I should think one should be able to eliminate inconveniences, especially when one pays what still is a third of a minimum wage in my country for one single AAA title.

Guild Wars 2 pre-purchase locations announced

@Mikx

You should have seen my FACE when I saw Bulgaria on that list! I'm so used to distributors almost always ignoring everything to the east of Poland or Hungary, if they're being generous....

Here's to hoping that they'll announce the Romanian retailers soon as well, otherwise I'm going to have to down to Ruse and buy the CE from Bulgaria.

UK finally implementing game tax relief

@Mmmmz

The UK? Heh, they're small kids compared to my neck of the woods in Europe -- which doesn't bother me at all, because I get to watch people's jaws hit the floor when I tell them about things like attending one of the best universities in the region at precisely zero cost, save for the money I spend on textbooks.

So many people look on the short term (ack, they took X percent out of my salary, I want to move!) and don't seem to care at all about the structural benefits for them and the later generations. But I suppose that's to be expected, because we're a lot fixated on preferably immediate gratification.

Rumor: Elder Scrolls MMO to be announced in May

Mar 15th 2012 10:49PM (Massively)
Several hundred years prior to Morrowind... I have a sneaking suspicion that such a game might deal with one of the civil wars that have wracked the Septim Empire through the Third Era. Possibly the War of the Red Diamond (long story short: Potema Septim, Wolf-Queen of Solitude, tries to put her son on the throne in Cyrodiil and starts a war all over the continent, with the ruling family of Cyrodiil and their other royal allies on one side, Skyrim, northern Morrowind and High Rock on the other. There's also mentions of vigilante factions, one of which played a key role in ending the whole debacle by murdering the would-be Emperor).

To be honest, I'd be seriously psyched about seeing one of the conflicts that have only been presented in books so far. Well, that and I like the idea of TES mechanics applied to an MMO -- well-crafted geography, lore-rich world, possibly classes system, skills advancing as they're used, etc.

We'll see.

Rayman Origins demo out now on Steam

Mar 3rd 2012 6:39AM (Joystiq)
Pre-ordered. I've been wanting this game ever since it first came out -- and it's fantastic that there hasn't been a very large wait in regards to porting it over to other platforms.

Here's what I want: I want this little gem to sell very well on PC, for the sole reason that several people over at Ubisoft might just have to eat their hats. I'm already promoting it like hell to my employed friends and trying to see if I can gift one or two copies to the 'flat-ass broke' ones.

Dawntide development officially on hiatus

@fatedruby

"That really depends. JRPGs and Fighters, for example, are pretty much non-existant on PCs."

This. I'd pay *out the wazoo* for JRPGs on PC, since I'm sick of just sitting here and grinding my teeth (I pretty much refuse to buy consoles due to the online services/online stores of PS3 and Xbox still not being available around here).

Journey review: I want to go to there

Mar 1st 2012 1:51PM (Joystiq)
@Scuffles

Why the down-votes? This is a good game that deserves to be on other platforms as well, if it wasn't for the exclusive contract with Sony.

I swear, the day this industry realizes that it's NOT a good idea to make some of your customers just sit there and gnash their teeth.....

Mass Effect 3: Space Edition almost raffled off in illegal lottery

Feb 27th 2012 8:39PM (Joystiq)
@Scuffles

Remember that ridiculous sum of money that a pre-release copy of MW3 allegedly sold for on eBay? Depending how desperate some people are about getting to play a few days early, I can actually see them getting some pretty hefty offers.

Binary Domain's multiplayer systems detailed

Feb 25th 2012 3:34AM (Joystiq)
.... This is one of the few games that's making me reconsider having sworn off consoles forever after an XboX 360 gave me a RROD within three days of purchase (barely used it, to boot).

Granted, I'm also hoping it might pull a 'Mass Effect 1' on us and arrive on the PC one or two years later, but by this point I'm too cynical to get drunk on cold water.
