In all the endings, the Relays are destroyed. When destroyed, they go supernova, therefore the host system is destroyed and all life within 20 light years of the relay is killed (seriously, that's not an exaggeration of the power of supernovae).

So, that kills off nearly every human, turian, asari, salarian, krogan, volus, hanar, etc. The few that do survive are stranded on remote planets with no hope of ever reconnecting with the rest of their species and the distinct likelihood of starving to death.

Yeah, those are real different endings.

It's still the same craptacular Gamebryo, and they're just going to port it and update it without fixing any of the horrendous problems with it.

It's most likely because of patents. They'd probably have to pay royalties to someone if they used the standard setup.
