@pkpk523 As Muu pointed out this was basically the big announcement.
I think a lot of people simply misinterpreted what the even would be. Assuming it was a big event to help Vita worldwide. Whereas it was just by Sony Japan and just for the Japanese market really. However even then it was a disappointment. A fair amount of sites didn't even bother reporting what came out of it. So here they are:
1. Phantasy Star Online 2 coming in 2013. 2. A Super Robot Wars game will be coming at some point but hasn't begun development. 3. Keiji Inafune is starting development on a game. 4. A game called Dokuro and one more game from the game arts production studio....... 5. What seems to be a remake of the Psp game Legend of heroes: Zero no Kiseki 6. MGS HD 7. A gundam game that appears to be an update of the arcade Z.A.F.T.II 8. A new game coming from the makers of Atelier and Ar Tonelico.
Then there were some very small announcements such as DLC for Shinobido, more games getting added to the psp passport program etc
So not a huge amount of new announcements. A fair amount of vague 'coming at some point in the future' titles and remakes.
Awesome because well the game and what it is doing are amazing and basically just takes all the ideas from section 8 and builds on them.
A shame because well... they have literally just taken section 8, given it a bigger budget and added a few new features in line with what a sequel would get. I mean if this game had been revealed as a sequel to Section 8 I wouldn't have been surprised in the slightest. I just feel bad for the developers of that game.
Dropping in from the sky, earning resources and buying vehicles/turrets etc while fighting. Unless I'm remembering wrong the vehicles are even identical mech, hover bike and heavy tank. Of course there is the addition of flying and a bit more base building(whereas in section 8 it was turrets, sensors and supply depots). Still I dunno just makes me feel slightly uneasy.
Slightly unrelated however I REALLY wish Microsoft would make it so that when you sorted new releases you could exclude certain games. Trying to look at new DLC releases is impossible as it is ALWAYS swamped with Rock Band, Dance central and similar types of games with so many dlc releases.
On the one hand it's great for people who have those games but for people who don't it makes sorting new releases incredibly difficult.
@LaughingTarget ... that doesn't really make sense with what I was talking about. Showing someone how to do butterfly stroke and then them doing it backwards isn't something you can really help, especially since it is such a basic thing. If the game shows you and has a feature that can show you again and you can see other characters doing the motion...... well it's not the games fault. It's the same as in dance central, it shows you how to do the moves as many times as you want. If you then keep doing it wrong it's really not the games fault when it is spelling it out for you.
Likewise someone trying to press 2 buttons at once isn't something you can help. That is simply someone failing to understand a basic concept. Like how in a shooter you can't make it simpler than ''Use the left analog stick to move'' In a kinect game how can you make it simpler than ''Hold your hand over the button''?
I mean with your post you make it sound like a game saying ''Press A to Jump'' then the person presses B is the games fault. It's the same thing with motions. If you tell someone ''Hold your hand over a button to select it'' then they do something different then what else are you meant to do?
Again game reviewers getting out of breath after 10minutes then not wanting to play as they are out of shape isn't really a games fault.
I think it's why some places have started setting up special sections for it. So Gametrailers has a motion section etc.
On the one hand he is totally wrong. The Tony Hawk board was simply bad. Not responsive enough, inputs not clear enough etc. Just a very badly done piece of equipment matched with truly dreadful games.
However he does have a point about critics reviewing things that aren't traditional gaming inputs and require activity.
Sometimes I watch the Giantbomb quicklooks as it shows you uncut gameplay and helps see what the game is really like. However every single time I have ever seen them do a kinect game it is an embarrassment. If it requires any activity then within 10minutes they are sweating and wiping their foreheads clearly having lost all energy and say the game sucks.
They also don't seem to understand alternative inputs. My favourite being when reviewing the Phelps game one of them did a butterfly stroke backwards (despite the game showing you how to do it) then blamed the game for not recognising it. To this day I still can't understand how simply by thinking of the action he was doing he didn't realise that it would make him move backwards not forward and must be wrong.
Or selecting a menu option with one hand then raising another hand to a different option and again they end up confused as to why it isn't selecting (erm two hands on different buttons?) and say the game sucks and isn't responsive.
I get the impression a lot of reviewers do this type of thing with kinect, wii, move etc etc. Problem is there isn't really an easy fix for it.
@eat it Totally different situations. Inafune making a general statement while being interviewed is fine.
A fan standing up to ask a question at a Q&A in a room full of people and being humiliated with a statement of ''your games just suck'' is not okay. Especially since English wouldn't be his native language. Having worked as a language teacher I would hazard a guess that the Japanese developer would have been very nervous to stand up in a crowded room and speak English. To then have to stand there and be insulted would be horribly humiliating.
The issue isn't what he said, that's his opinion. The issue is with insulting and humiliating someone. If you don't see the difference between the two situations then I feel sorry for you.
@Kougeru Unfortunately you have actually made him sound nicer than he is! The story is that at a Q&A session a Japanese guy in the crowd said how he liked the panel's games then asked a question about what they thought about modern Japanese games. Fish replied with ''your games just suck''. The poor guy then had to stand there while Fish simply insulted the Japanese gaming industry. One of the other developers on the panel even tweeted how bad she felt seeing the guys sad face.
An utterly horrible thing to do to a fan asking a question. His opinion on the Japanese gaming industry is neither here nor there. However when a guy (who it would appear English isn't even his first language) asks a question in a public place to give such a disrespectful response is really awful.
I recommend that everyone at least tries the game. It is a really great game. It looks utterly beautiful but also features really interesting gameplay. I had tons of fun building barriers out of lava to stop villages being flooded etc...... or suddenly pouring lava onto the villagers.
@BoBsS Unfortunately you are totally right. The Sega games had actually shown signs of improving with Captain America.
It was purely the fact that the Sega games had been bad for so long that people had come to know what to expect and so stopped buying them. If they were still selling well then you can guarantee that they would still be getting the licenses regardless of quality.
It's a shame because in recent years Marvel itself has become FAR tighter about making sure their movies are up to quality. Trying to bring them all in house, when licenses expire not allowing them to be renewed, creating the cinematic universe etc. However it seems that in terms of games they still don't give a damn.
.... that is one of the stupidest company responses ever. The issue is that the content has been fully developed before the game was released then withheld so it can later be sold as DLC. So Capcom's response is basically ''Yes we are withholding content but the reason the withheld content is on your discs is so that when we later sell it to you it's not a problem!''
Gamers don't have issue with the simple concept of DLC or even DLC soon after launch. It is when content that can be completed in time to go on the disc is purposefully locked so it can be sold later.
