Harmonix issues statement on ending of Guitar Hero franchise

Feb 10th 2011 4:30PM (Joystiq)
kgoo867 is correct. RedOctane originally had the license for GH, but only covered the instruments. Harmonix developed the initial games, creating the entire setup. When GH2 was a massive success, Activision bought RedOctane, and threw Harmonix out on their asses where they had to start over (which they did incredibly well with RB).

Animal Collective's Panda Bear Unsure of Band's Future

Mar 20th 2010 2:33PM (Spinner)
Animal Collective is one of the biggest "indie" groups in the world right now. They have a very unique sound, and use a wide variety of musical styles and cultural sounds in their music (for instance, the track "Lion in A Coma" features a digeridoo).

Their last album was titled Merriweather Post Pavilion. It came out last January, and upon release was hailed for its great songs. It reached #13 on the Billboard Charts in its opening week. It also won accolades like Album of the Year from Spin Magazine, Pitchfork.com and Entertainment Weekly, as well as being ranked above #20 in most Top Album of the Decade lists.

So, just because you haven't heard of AnCo doesn't mean they're bad. It means you don't listen to anything and click on random links on AOL.com.

Here's some tracks from MPP:

Animal Collective's Panda Bear Unsure of Band's Future

Humorously enough, dude, Animal Collective's last release, the critically-acclaimed "Merriweather Post Pavilion", hit #13 on the Billboard Charts last January.

So, in summation, go listen to more music than the seven songs they play on the Top 40 Radio Stations.

The Oscarologist: 'Avatar,' 'Hurt Locker' Lead Nominees, but 'Blind Side' Makes Biggest Noise

District 9 had a budget of $30 million dollars. Avatar had a budget between 300 and 500 million dollars.

The Oscarologist: 'Avatar,' 'Hurt Locker' Lead Nominees, but 'Blind Side' Makes Biggest Noise

Feb 2nd 2010 2:27PM (Moviefone Blog)
Some of the comments I'm reading here almost make me want to weep. I'm 18 and I review films at the University of Connecticut for the school paper.

"Blind Side" was not a very good movie. It had poor acting and decisions, including the terrible move of having college coaches play themselves, which ruined the very illusion of cinema. Bullock did a decent job with mediocre material, and we're rewarding her?

I've seen 6 of the 10 BP noms, with Precious and Hurt Locker in my possession, and I can honestly say right now that Blind Side is the poorest of the ten films. Up In The Air had beautiful cinematography and great acting from its three leads; Up was a moving animated film, rare in these days; District 9 was an exciting, incredible sci-fi film done with 10% of Avatar's budget; Inglourious Basterds was a joy ride, with the tensest drama and funniest comedy of the year, sometimes in the very same scene. "A Serious Man" was my favorite of all of them, a philosophical update of the Book of Job.

Blind Side was awful in comparison to these great films, and I hope you're all fine with lowering the standards of cinema by supporting middle-of-the-road mediocrity.
