I think some of the categories aren't filtered just right.
There is a difference between most QA people (bottom of the ladder) and the lead QA devs that actually contribute to the code base.
There are differences between the programmers and the lead engine software engineers.
Also, the business side makes the most money, but they also have the most competition. Just about everyone I know has a degree in business, and getting those business lead positions is very difficult. But if you have a sofware engineering degree and know your stuff, odds are you can find a lead developer role sooner rather than later, you also have other related industries to fall back on.
@LOL247 You don't see how many thousands of AI, pathfinding objects would pose a problem for a mobile device? My ipad chokes on simple programs occasionally.
Now, a complete reworking of the game, essentially a dumbed down, grand strategy only, or maybe with a simplified real time portion might work.
But that would be Total War Light, and not really a port of the PC version.
Instead of asking PC game developers about their games, the gameplay in their games, the future plans for their IP's, it's ALWAYS the same stupid question that gets asked by 90% of the gaming sites.
Herpy derp, derp, when is it coming to consoles!?!?!?!
I mean, common! It's a grand strategy game with tens of thousands of units running AI, animations and pathfindind. Not only is it IMPOSSIBLE on current gen consoles, it has an audience of exactly 1,000 people on the consoles anyway.
Seriously, can people stop asking this same old tired question of PC game devs. We know the Us and UK are very consoled focused, but there are still tens of millions of PC gamers in those territories.
And we would have liked something more interesting on these guys than their response for this pointless question.
Looks like Total War and Football manager are carrying the company. Makes sense to focus on those IP's.
It seems weird to me that they have to do restructuring and lay off people when we're talking about HUNDREDS of millions of dollars in PROFIT.
We're not talking revenue, we're talking money AFTER operating costs still being in the hundreds of millions and yet they still need to fire a bunch of people.
@Punkrawk Bbob Yeah, but how many of them are going to know about this particular project. not only that, but have you played the BG Original series? Can you imagine trying to control a party in that engine with a gamepad??
Routinely we've seen small projects like this do way better on PC than on consoles. It's cheaper to put it out on PC as well, so the risk is smaller.
I can't imagine that a large number of Mac users interested in playing a game like this on their machines, don't already have Steam running in a Bootcamp windows 7 partition...

Apr 1st 2012 9:35AM (Joystiq)But Assasin's Creed doesn't look half as good on console as it does on PC. There are large differences here.
