You do know they made a ton more money on Steam, in less time with super meatboy than on the xbox, right? And they've gone on record saying they pretty much hated the experience of working with Microsoft.
Hmm, so it does look like this will likely be an HD refresh of the series.
Which would be absolutely cool. The main barrier to that amazing game is the dated look and mechanics.
Yet it's still mentioned by anyone who knows anything about video games whenever listing any of the best RPG's ever made.
A refresh would expose that legendary game to a new audience and, of course, bring back a lot of memories for those who played the original games.
Still, I am hoping for something more, either now, or as a next step after the refresh. A sequel, or a spin-off based on that area of the Forgotten Realms universe would be awesome.
They originally said they could easily have it running on a single GTX 580.
My guess is that the finished engine will (of course) be multi-platform, PC, and the next gen consoles, and will have some scalability to it.
Which is great news for PC gamers with modern rigs.
We won't have to upgrade our machines for the "next gen", since the "next gen" is going to be all about targeting games and software technology towards modern hardware (which we already have).
I picked up on Steam when ti came out and it's a game with tons of atmosphere. The gameplay isn't stellar, but it keeps you entertained, and the story is intriguing and interesting (we'll see how ti all comes together).
Definitely worth the price of admission, and I'm sure it'll be on a Steam sale sooner rather than later for those of you on the fence.
I'm happy that it's turned profitable after only 2 days. It's still one of the top 3 sellers on Steam, so hopefully it'll bring in a ton of cash for them.
The game actually runs flawlessly even on my A8 APU (at 720p).
Double check to make sure the "uber sampling" option isn't checked. It's supersampling AA, so the whole thing is rendered at twice the resolution. Huge performance hit.
Piracy is a problem, but the solutions are based on providing services to paying customers as well as affordable avenues of purchase for as much of the world as possible.
But yeah, bottom line is pirates suck balls.
As for the sales of Witcher 2, that's pretty darn amazing, considering they probably spent 1/10, if that, in terms of marketing compared to a similar console release.
I'm also surprised about the digital sales. Could it be that they offered a really good retail package? I know it and SC2 were the ONLY games in a few years now that I've bought at retail. Everything else is from Steam or Origin.
My guess is that they will consider it, and then when Sony and MS tells them they can't send 2 gigabyte monthly updates to their clients, and they have to limit their DLC and split the profits thereof with them, they will STOP "considering it".
