Hyperspace Beacon: End of beta impressions

"If you don't like this game, you don't like video games."

Portal, Fallout 2, etc etc are all laughing at the suggestion that a generically written Kill/Click X of Y game is of comparable depth/design.

Reality called, spending money on developing content instead of on voice actors could have allowed for this.

Yeah. Too bad that you "feeling" like you could make a difference on the server isn't "actually" making a difference.

Yeah, so, you admit that it "might change at end game" while talking about how it is different.....how about you don't rattle off what advertising has told you to think? I'm here to tell you:skill usually trumps gear, but gear DOES matter and you can welfare your way up.

@(Unverified) Sounds like someone hasn't been playing for months. Lemme recap for you:

"SWTOR has the same and more options in gameplay as other AAA themepark MMO's have"

More? Like what?

Here, let me list instead some basic common things it is missing:no armor dyes, no cosmetic slots, no player housing, no scaling dungeons, only 2 factions and no options for betraying your faction, no UI customizing....hey, wait, these are all features that I can find in other modern MMOs as well as ROUGHLY DECADE OLD MMOs.

"millions of MMO gamers CAN enjoy themepark MMO's for years even after they've reached level cap."

Wait, you were just trying to argue that it has the same or more options. Are you trying to argue playerbase now? What does one have to do with the other? Because lots of people enjoy less options, that means that it doesn't actually have less options? Huh?

"SWTOR has warzones, flashpoints, operations, crafting,"

Battlegrounds, Instances, Raids, Crafting. I'm sorry, where was the new thing it is bringing to the table? Every MMO has those. Slapping a different name on it doesn't make it different.

"the class storylines of other classes, "

So, how many hours have you logged on the beta? Take it from someone who has run half a dozen classes at very least through their two starter zones:the storylines have very little difference to offer, and makes sure you get the entire zone tour. The Sith Warrior will visit the 90 degree hallway catacomb on the western border of the zone, then the east; while the Inquisitor will visit the western first and then the eastern! WOW! The Sith quest hub will be on the north end of the map and send players into the central section, while the Republic hub will be south! WOW!

"FFA PvP, open world PvP, and RvR style faction PvP that you can participate in when reaching level cap."

Still not telling me where any of this has any freshness or depth. When I've capped, I've seen %90 of the content already....repeatedly. But again:how long have you been testing? I'll grant that FFA PvP isn't common for a big title, but "kill any other player in one zone" over "only ever kill other players with a different color text above their head" is still PvP the same.

You cite LotRO's storylines:far more engaging. While I despise phasing, if you're going to insist on telling a single player story in an MMO, it's pretty helpful to see the world change. TOR has no such thing. Nothing ever changes unless it's in an indoors instance you can't revisit.

And again-coming from someone who has played a few times through to near cap-your "story options" barely exist. They'll have very minor effects later on at best. Free your slave, and she'll stay in your party and probably say nice things later; or don't free your slave and she'll stay in your party and probably say less nice things later. MIND=BLOWN. The Sith are pretty bloodlusty, why can't I attack other Sith players? Not very immersive. Hey, a starship! Let's go to the Sith capitol city! oh....the story doesn't send me there, so I can't go there even though it'd be a suicide run, nor can other players and I form up to go camp Crossroads.

Etc etc. If you enjoy Kill X Of Y (and don't tell me those quests don't exist, the FIRST quest a Jedi Knight comes across is unskippable and it is to kill 10 Flesh Raiders) on rails, great! Have at it. If you want some options, some depth, well you're boned. Don't like the starter zone(s)? Can't grind your way out, can't go anywhere else, etc etc.

Because there's very little content or depth. One trip through will land you on all the planets, even half heartedly following the quests takes you across all of the map on all the planets. The storylines are pretty cliche and similar. Not a lot of reason to run an alt of every class. My Sith Warrior and Inquisitor faced almost the same paths until near the end for instance.

There's no depth to keep people playing either. Crafting is so simplified that there won't be much of a competitive market or need for playing; there's nothing to strive for like rare ships or player housing/city building, etc etc.

It's fine for a playthrough or two, but once you reach endgame your options are:keep doing the same battlegrounds you did while leveling, run the same instances you did while leveling, or run a few raids (the only endgame exclusive content). With each zone being "on rails" there's no reason to go back to any previous planets either. This game was meant to be "beaten", then you resubscribe when there's a content patch.
