PS3 DivX support announced

Nov 13th 2007 4:36PM (Joystiq)
Gamecube already used divx for the lord of the rings games, not native support indeed yet developers can just program it themselves

PS3 sales on par with 360, launches aligned

Oct 20th 2007 5:06AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Notice however that this 'on par' situation has been only achieved by cumulative price drops. And that current XBox worldwide sales are 50% higher.
I think that the XBox sales are just a kind of benchmark for the Sony analysts like a zero-point. Once sales dip under they will take action in forms like pricedrops and bundling games.

But since the original plan was to sell like 6 million of them in march you can guess that sales are bad. And since production has not been lowered they still have 11 million of them to reach by march 08.

Hirai says: six years until PS3 games use full system potential

Sep 4th 2007 1:07PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Yeah why buy a PS3 now if the full potential will be ready whitin 6 years and will be a lot cheaper.

Bear in mind that PC games will by then outclass the PS3 by a factor 6. Just like PC games like Oblivion looked last year compared to what PS2 games had to offer.

And don't forget that whitin 4-5 years the XBox 1080 will hit the market, and since that one is easy to develop for it will certainly look better.

I prefer 2 cheap consoles in 10 years then one expensive one.

Finally who even cares that Lair 2 will look even better?

Today's most death-defying video: the PSP Unbricking

I tought Sony considered the ability to brick a PSP a feature?

Price drop produces 135% jump in sales

Jul 23rd 2007 8:01PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Mjah, Sony isn't selling very well. So a 135% raise doesn't mean much without the actual numbers. But as it looks it could maybe sell more then the XBox 360.
That is, if the increase is permanent.

The truth about PSP Lite's battery life

Jul 19th 2007 8:50AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Hmmz those extra capacity batteries are often selected ones, so if you sell 10-100k of them it's not a problem if you want to sell millions of them you'll need another market where you can get ride of the remaining batteries.

And those extra large capacities often come without warranty.

Universal pressured to support Blu-ray, refuses

Jul 17th 2007 6:47PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I hope you all realise that HD-DVD is founded upon a patent pool and is cheaper for the consumer then the blue-ray version, maybe those effects aren't in the market yet but they will be in the long run.
Blue-ray is only there to provide Sony with extra cash, look at it like UMD: Sony prefers to push their own format, good or bad, and if they can't they just go on and create a new potential format.

Remember that in the end it's just some cavities in a metal layer, there is no magic to it, no superior investements... just some holes in a layer of metal.

E307: A closer look at the Wii Zapper

Jul 12th 2007 10:18AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
It looks like a piece of plastic with a little storage room for the wire.
it's still 19$ for a piece of plastic and i want to hold my hands next to each other

Tretton: Sony doesn't "bribe" for exclusives

Jul 4th 2007 1:34PM (Joystiq Playstation)
They don't spend millions on an exclusive, yet the spend billions to promote a format.

It would be indeed just stupid to spend millions on a console if you can spend billions and a delay of a year on a blue-ray device.
So the PS3 was a cheap blue-ray player, and now it is and an expensive blue-ray player and an expensive console. Not only that: every game on the PS3 is also available on the cheaper XBox, with the potential that in 2/3 years games will look better on the PS3. (if the developers will even care to make it look better)
So we know Sony won't spend millions on MGS, so it will be on the XBox too. Nice work Sony, nice work.

PS3 is in comfortable production swing, says Sony

Jul 3rd 2007 6:25PM (Joystiq Playstation)
They said they would deliver 10 or 11 million PS3's before the end of the (fiscal?) year.
Lets say it's 10 million before march. If they want to reach that number as PS3's sold to customers they will have to sell as good as the Wii from now on.
I think this is another Sony PR-statement, reality is that since the PS3 doesn't sell as good, they don't have to produce as many units so every piece of hardware is in a state of oversupply. So since they can't sell it. So if Sony has a product that doesn't sell, they'll at least have filled shelves (thats a good thing!) and have no supply shortage on any components.
