Philly H says: "don't judge a console by its launch software!"

Jul 1st 2007 5:52PM (Joystiq Playstation)
If we can't judge it by its software, then what do we have to judge it on?
The color, the size, the price, units sold, eventual potential, the PR?! Nah maybe not the PR...

"as long as the games they get are great, [Consumers] don't care if they are third-party or first-party"
Indeed but consumers won't care neither if they play the game on an XBox360 or a PS3.

Oh Sony, Sony, my Sony....

Rumour: Bioware to showcase a PS3 exclusive at E3?

Jun 30th 2007 8:38AM (Joystiq Playstation)
you mean a time limited exclusive, something like a week...

PS3 outsells Wii and Xbox 360 ... in Australia

Jun 29th 2007 10:02AM (Joystiq)
Lets celebrate that, but hurry because it won't last long.
But Sony will still have the largest amount of console hardware earned money for some more weeks.

next news item: uganda likes the PS3 more!

Consoles make up bulk of high-def movie player sales

Jun 26th 2007 2:50PM (Joystiq)
HD discs stand for 0.2% of global video media out there. There are even more UMD players then HD-players.

Still it accounts for like 2% of all gaming posts. I mean... what does a plasic disk has to do with consoles. Games are driven toward procedural content because HD's and Memory improvements don't increase as much as GPU/CPU improvements. So games will actually become smaller. And those games that will be too big are just games that include video. And no disc format will ever be big enough because the formats are made to handle movies!

It can be important but as you may have noticed: Nintendo's old hardware sells like hell. Look at WOW, it's not like the game is that impressive to look at. So why don't we have more posts about crazy ideas, those are the ones that change the world of games not some plastic disk.

God of War to use PSP's full processor speed

Jun 26th 2007 11:49AM (Joystiq)
Battery life depends also on the game you are playing. They have tested the PSP in 2004 and thay found that most games lasted about 4 hours, and one even hit at 2h40. Then there was the whole fanboy thing, a bit like these comments: ridge racer lasted 6 hours, i can play 16 hours... etc.

Bottom point is that the frequency has a quadratic influence on the power dissipation. So battery life will be lower, but since the chip isn't the only power consumer and since game can be optimized for lower battery drainage (i think developers already do that) the battery should last over 3-4 hours.
Besides wasn't the battery of the PSP made so you could change it quickly?

Also keep in mind that lithium batteries drop in capacity over time. if you own it for 3 years now, the capacity could be down to 60-50%. Just like computers, the first time they last 3 hours, and after 4 years i have 30 min left :s.
Yet laptops are way hotter i know, and i didn't kept the power level at 40%... yet i don't think the average consumer knows that, or like i: does that.

There's a website about that batteryuniversity or so. But im just an RF-engineer, not a chemical expert.

Gamespot changes review system, adds 'medals'

Jun 24th 2007 2:39PM (Joystiq)
The current rating method has been invented in a time that 'noise' was actually a sound-channel and cows were made of 25 polygons.
One should look for images of SimCopter, one of the first 3D games i tried. I mean in those times you could clearly state that one game looked better then the other one. Now we actually have reviews comparing screen by screen, multiple versions of the same game to look if the one looks better then the other.

I think it was indeed time that they had a review of the review. A game featuring 25k polygons over 10k polygons, that was awesome. But now they are comparing an X layer 250k poly with dynamic modeling and multiple lights and dynamic shadows... I mean, you have to be an expert to see the differences, how could we ever experience them?

Furthermore the games are evolving, we had way too many FPS games and now we have these experience games: horror in Doom3, motion in the Wii, perfect story in ocarina, steal a car in GTA and beat all people up like zombies: manhunt.

i'm glad they have a new review system, i hope many will follow

BD+ has been finalized - avalanche of Fox Blu-ray movies expected to follow

Jun 21st 2007 4:14AM (Joystiq Playstation)
If every console out there outsells the PS3 with a minimum of 4+ million, the PS3 still hasn't lost.

If blue-ray outsells HD-DVD by not even a million disks, HD-DVD is lost and soon to be forgotten.
Besides thats the thing about posting all this HD movie stuff, we have alle the sales and estimates of movies but we don't get the console sales.
If not because its good news it worth publishing.

Famitsu loves Zelda, gives Phantom Hourglass near-perfect score

Jun 21st 2007 4:06AM (Joystiq)
Indeed the Zelda franchise does not so great in Japan. There were even voices that the franchise would be ended.

But however windwaker was one of the nicest cell-shaded games of the decade people like realistic visuals more. Wheres the time games came true in our imagination instead of on our television.

Nintendo closing gap on Sony's market value

Jun 20th 2007 3:55PM (Joystiq)
Nintendo has done what it has always done: innovate.

And yes they seem like making games for kids, yet all those mature games are just shooting around with bigger nicer and more explosive weapons every time around (and vehicles).
I don't know but i like strategy games more, even if they look like their made for childs.
Loving the PS3 is like loving Britney Spears, all mature and fake. Grow up.

Someone who did also find the 'power rangers' cool and mature once, like 15 years ago...

Haze confirmed as a timed exclusive for the PS3 - a one week exclusive [UPDATE]

Jun 20th 2007 7:32AM (Joystiq Playstation)
probably because the distribution of the Blue-Ray version is the fastest one because they don't have to make that many copies.
