Seriously lame. Lets not forget to swaddle our children head to toe in fluffly kevlar, shove cotton in their ears and put blindfolds on them before they leave the house or they will be exposed to all the evil the world has to offer.
Sony-specific problems aside, this is a good move for the industry (and digital distribution) as a whole. We can only hope other companies follow suit.
...and don't call it "discounted" pricing, call it what it is, "FAIR". I shouldn't have to incur the cost of plastic, paper, silicon, shipping etc. when I download software.
@Special Agent Steve I clearly do not pay for unfinished games (I don't pay $60 for games either, but thats another story). Don't get me wrong, the Fallout series is one of my all time favorites, but Bethesda has a horrible track record for their releases so I don't buy their games on day one. I agree that Skyrim is too big for a QA team to handle. Bethesda should have done extensive beta testing before release...its free labor for them and thousands of hardcore fans would be able to play the game before it comes out. Win-win.
A game is not ready for release with bugs like the ones I've seen in Skyrim so far. I would blame Bethesda, but when enough people like you give companies a pass on shoddy releases it tells them loud and clear that quality doesn't matter as long as it can be patched...nevermind that the patch could take a day or a month to arrive, if ever. I guess I just expect more as a consumer.
Why would you pay 60 bucks to beta test a game? I'm hoping to get this game for a bargain during Steam's xmas sale...plus by then maybe the worst of the bugs will be fixed.
