I Am Alive not planned for PC due to piracy concerns

Nov 23rd 2011 11:04PM (Joystiq)
@Serger989 Before I get targeted as a PC hater, god no. My favorite games are on the PC and if there is a PC version of a console game, I don't give a crap that it's a port that game will be mine if I like it. My shelf is littered with PC games from classics to new ones. Again Steam is wonderful, it's done a lot for the PC market in the recent years. It's simply made PC games more easily attainable for a lot of people since distributing PC games on a large scale was not cost effective for a lot of publishers. Not everyone can utilize the service well (internet/computer/location etc) but even before steam was popular that PC games shelf in gamestop was getting realllllllly tiny. Now, it's simply not that much of an issue!

@Startbuttonnews Yeah, it is a few, that's not as much as you think especially when single games have that many sales on consoles.

You know, as "bad" as pirating is, I doubt it is the reason why the PC has low sales. It costs a lot of money to get a good PC (I'm not stupid, I know a decent rig is about $500, with all your essentials a great pc is gonna be just shy of a grand) but it's also hard to get access to PC games for quite a few people. Not everybody has a great internet connection to download off steam, not everything is offered off steam, not everyone has a credit card so easily available to use on video games (also again, the computer is an issue).

To say pirating is a big issue with games not being bought though is poppycock. PC sales haven't changed that drastically, if it's worth buying, people will buy it. The problem is that the people who pirate are probably people who don't buy anything to begin with, either they don't feel it's worth their money or they just wouldn't have bothered with it unless it were free. Even then pirating has made people aware of lots of things that they wouldn't have known about otherwise (along with steam ah what an amazing thing valve did).

This is just their way of saying Xbox 360 makes them more money, because how is pirating not a problem for console? Do you know how many people mod their xbox? Check out some torrent sites and see how many people download those xbox games, way more than PC and that's not including the useful ways of downloading like megaupload. Either way you won't stop pirating pulling douche moves like this and your stuff will still be pirated anyways so why exclude a whole form of media from experiencing it? Development costs are completely understandable so if that's an issue, that's fine. But you can always make it exclusive to steam! Steam seriously needs to be embraced more...

Kitase: Square 'learnt a lesson' with FF XIII, franchise needs more frequent releases

Nov 21st 2011 3:32PM (Joystiq)
Modern Warfare 2 and FF13 were the only games in my entire life that I returned. For good reason, looks like I made the right choice after reading this... The series has taken a big downturn and has a severe lack of vision and execution with 13 and 14 (12 was great don't kid yourselves). The lesson to learn is to adapt in the correct way, it's not like they didn't try to adapt, just look at the changes within 13 and 14 to witness what they did to make it a more modern experience. The problem was they weren't that good in terms of changes and they held on to things that took away from the experience. Not just linear exploration but linear game design oh and completely forgettable cast of characters (Sazh was pretty good, best VO to). All IMO of course but there are clear reasons why FF13 had an incredibly high return rate.
