@Granger Ultimate GnG was a great sequel, it used teleportation, leveling up, and secrets. A 2D Ninja Gaiden sequel would have to probably add a bit of depth to the game in those areas, otherwise it'd just be more of the same and 20 years late.
@Unit076 Sam would be such a game beaker, just going around sliding everywhere boomerang kicking everyone. Then theres the issue of his super powered long range weapons, lol.
