@Misterhudd1 To be honest, I think Morrowind actually explained the Dwemer disappearance quite well and while I share your interest in general with the Dwemer (more, where they went as opposed to how or why) I think it is just one of those mysteries that needs to be left alone for the interest factor.

Re: Patches before DLC - It is quite clear that it is Bethesda's intent to work on getting the necessary fixes out there and that dlc is really only in the formulating idea phase. And even if they were working on something (who knows, maybe they are?), it wouldn't be at the expense of patches. Generally speaking, most studios have separate teams for bug fixes and DLC. :P
