Exactly how compelling of a place can Arkham really be when the INTERIOR of every room is filled with gargoyles? About as compelling as Rapture would have been full of umbrellas. Comparisons to BioShock, judging by the demo at least, are incredibly offbase.
To second or third the sentiment stated above: Donkey Punch? Really? I guess Troll 2 isn't yet available on PSN.
This fature is similar in approach to the posts where Joystiq's writers all tell us what games they are playing for the weekend, and an equally bad idea. This isn't a personal blog or a twitter page, so I can't help but see these types of posts concerning the staff's personal preferences as innappropriate at best and self important at worst.
On a sidenote, you guys should really consider dropping the "Dude, I'm totally cool" vibe from SOME of the posts. You always seem to embed thirty horrible jokes and non-germane references to previous posts inside every stub you list. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I read the site everyday in spite of this writing style, not because of it. I'm sure I'll be written off as a schmuk, but I really do read the site daily, and I just wanted to state something that has bothered me extensively.
And for those writing just ignore it, well, your missing the point. Last week we didn't have to ignore it, and ideally we won't have to next week either. This is a new feature. Some of us don't like it. We re simple expressing that in hopes that it will disappear, as often happens to unpopular segments.
It's nice to see that Miyamoto is either ignorant or a liar. Watch the PS3 tech demo and tell me that the one for one movement offered therein is inferior in any way to the Motion Plus band aid Nintendo is having to release in order to approach the functionality originally promised out of the box.
Go back to shaking your controller like a rattle, you corporate shill.
As someone else pointed out above, the Simpsons game looks to be chocked full of suck. On top of that, Grand Theft Scratchy is NOT a parody, it's a weak ass reference. Something has to make a joke or be funny to be considered parody.
I repeat, creating a canon of games is an intellectually irresponsible act. Ever heard of a false distinction? I assume the idea comes from trying to legitimze gaming as a serious artform, but simply copying over a broken structure from literary criticism is perhaps the stupidest attempt at legitimzation I have ever seen.
If you want to talk about games intelligently, do so. No source book telling you whether to use the term "video game" or "videogame" will ehlp you achieve any more mental focus or clarity, and neither will an "official" list of top ten important games. Again, I encourage you to discuss what makes a specific game important, but don't throw it into some peddled to the masses arbitary list.
On a sidenote, I would love to see an editorial justifying the rampant deletion of any disssenting opinions, which is so strictly enforced on Joystiq.
HA! Yeah, the guy who set the Mario clouds to loop was looking for new ways to express himself artistically. Or, Arthur Danto was just right when he said Art died after Picasso, becoming nothing but a corporate shell, which "artisits" then use to pander their deep "messages." I'm a lot more inclined to go with the second. This is not art by any stretch of the word people, it's schmuks cashing in on a fad.
