Hell yes! This is awesome news. Even if it turns out to be an FPS, it's being made by an awesome developer and should be of great quality. I won't be disappointed if it's an FPS and not a true X-COM sequel in terms of Turn Based Strategy because the great news is that it should renew interest in the franchise and add new fans to one of the best games ever made. I'm only 18 and I've tried to get friends into X-COM but graphics are hard to look past for a lot of my peers. Hopefully with the success of this game they can resurrect the franchise and make a more modern(graphically speaking) sequel to a franchise that was ahead of its time.
That is called Demand-Pull inflation, and ultimately it will come crashing down. The sad thing is that the gaming industry could be making much greater profits if it got rid of the $60 tags and based the prices on how much each game cost to make combined with the amount of sales they expect. It would make the video game market much more competitive and the standout games would be rewarded with incredible profits while the busts would be properly reprimanded by the free market.
Why all the Halo 3 hate? Halo 3 has set a new standard for the FPS genre and all anybody does is hate on it because it's the XBOX flagship. We can can expect to see forge, theatre, 4 player live co-op, and incredible stat tracking in future FPS games. I'm a lvl 43 right now in COD4 and it's just getting boring. COD4 has done nothing new for the genre. COD4 is just the first call of duty with unlockables. COD4 is nice, but it's basically just the FPS version of WoW. You go back only because you want that new gun or that new level.
In my opinion CoD4 multiplayer isn't as fun as Halo's, it's merely more addicting. After 43 levels of CoD4 I do not have one single memorable moment. Playing CoD4 is becoming more of a chore for me. "Just 2k more experience for my Deagle!" just doesn't sound very fun to me for some reason anymore. I can recount countless stories of me and my friends playing Halo, but can only think of random grenade kills and random deaths by chopper that angered me so, when I think of CoD4.
Anyway, that's just a rant on how it nags me that people are giving Halo so much crap. Anyway, take my opinion with a grain of salt and enjoy CoD4, but I think I'm pretty much done with that game.
Shiberving is right. If Henry Ford gives his workers better salary and better pay their moral goes up and production increases. If production and morale go up then Henry Ford can sell his cars cheaper. If Henry Ford can make good quality cars for cheap and have a loyal working force, then Henry Ford will be a very successful man in a very successful industry.
History is repeating itself people. If the whole industry started releasing less games, but ensured they were quality and would sell well, then the industry would become much more successful. If they stopped trying to sell the miracle tonic that would cure baldness and cancer, and started ensuring quality , a loyal workforce and loyal consumer base, the gaming industry would become a juggernaut.
Slaziman and Jeff, I hate to break it to you but when it comes to video games most people are very frugal. Why should people want to spend $700 in order to play Crysis when they can play Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4 on a 360 for $350. Why pay $700 to play Crysis if you can play Killzone on the PS3 for $400?
You two guys pretty much represent the very first generation of hardcore gamers, and right now that population is very small and is also very zealous. That combo makes you guys come off as very egotistical and elitist and it's not helping your arguments. That's not a bad thing and I'm sure you guys just hate the unappreciation of PC gaming, but it would be best if you guys checked your tone before making everyone else feel like uneducated morans.
Anyway, even if beating Crysis unlocked immortality, most people wouldn't be willing to plop down $700 to purchase a computer just so they may play video games.
I think the maps are great but I have a couple complaints about how Bungie did it. 1. The playlist for those who bought it only is a great idea, but I don't want to play the same map 3 times in a row. They should have added a little bit of the originals into the playlist so that way we don't burn out on the 3 new maps and come to the wrong conclusion of thinking that the new maps suck. 2. If you're going to prop up Foundry as the greatest thing to happen to forge since sliced bread, then I better be able to enjoy it in forge even with my friends who don't own the maps. It's freakin forge and custom games I gain nothing from them except fun with my friends, and I think 10 bucks should allow me to do custom games and forge on the new maps with my less fortunate friends that don't own the maps. 3. For the love of God please get rid of Foundry as 6v6. 4. Don't hype your shit up so damn much bungie because people are always going to bitch, no matter how great something you make is, if you overhype your products.
Who is this casual market that MS is trying to appeal to with Ping Pong? Someone define casual for me please. Rockstar Table Tennis is a pretty hard game, and I'd say it's alot better than most sports games also. If you believe the casual gamers are high schoolers, then you sorely underestimate the purchasing power of our parents and ourselves come Christmas time. Halo 3 is going to be the spark of one of the biggest years in the industry's history.

Cost of next-gen game production is a burden on developers

Is new Halo 3 DLC worth the coin?
