Flagship Studios confirms layoffs, extent unknown
Jul 11th 2008 10:29PM (Joystiq)Still, I guess that means HGL is virtually done for now. Shame. :(

Jun 23rd 2008 12:55AM (Joystiq)I think it's great that the UFC are still trying, but I'd definitely want a demo before paying any money for this. They need to convince people that this will actually *work*.

Jun 23rd 2008 12:53AM (Joystiq)Royce Gracie got schooled by Hughes, just like he in his prime would have been taught a lesson by the top ranked UFC fighters of today. He was good for his time but the sport has progressed a hell of a long way since then. And the outcome of the Hughes match proves it.
Stardock launches Impulse digital distribution system
Jun 17th 2008 10:05PM (Joystiq)Of course Stardock aren't actually "throwing their hat in the ring" here, either, as they've been doing digital distribution longer than most. It's just Impulse that is new. They previously ran their gaming stuff through Stardock Central, alongside their other products like WindowBlinds, etc.
Steam can only force Impulse to get "lost in the mist" by getting all the games Impulse has available onto Steam. If the only place you can buy a digital copy of a certain game is Impulse, people will go there.
Impulse can also avoid getting lost in the mist by offering things Steam can't or won't - WindowBlinds, for example...
Sins of a Solar Empire releases today in UK
Jun 13th 2008 5:09AM (Joystiq)This game has been available worldwide for months and months direct from Stardock. $44.95 for the direct download only version, which is around £23, so it's cheaper too. For a couple of dollars more you can even get yourself the boxed copy, if you want.
Forget Sins of a Solar Empire 2, buy it direct from Stardock and support companies that don't burden everyone with onerous DRM schemes. If Sins continues to sell well via Stardock - it has so far - then an expansion or sequel is more likely and it will more likely not have copy protection again so it's a win all round.
Hellgate: London programmer claims staff leaving 'in droves'
Jun 11th 2008 10:21PM (Joystiq)I would suggest that you should have been around for the leadup to why there was "emo drama" but absent a time machine, that may prove difficult. :)
Suffice it to say, the "whiners" are completely justified in their complaints. It's great that you're not experiencing any troubles, but that doesn't mean those who have are wrong to complain.

Jun 11th 2008 10:18PM (Joystiq)And yes, they're touting how well it did in Korea. What they're not telling you is that it only did well at launch in Korea and has since sunk like a rock.
Flagship's reply to the situation is full of spin and disinformation.

New Zealand receiving Australian censored version of GTA IV despite R18 classification
Apr 27th 2008 11:15PM (Joystiq)No they weren't. Rockstar voluntarily censored the game before the OFLC and the Kiwis got their hands on it for rating purposes. Australian and New Zealand authorities were never even given a chance to decide whether the original content of the game was okay.
Why Rockstar's pre-emptive self-censorship isn't making more news is beyond me.
No, wait, it's not beyond me. It's because it's not happening in America and thus it's not happening at all, for all intents and purposes...
