Feb 10th 2012 5:58PM (Joystiq)I don't think the elf deck has anything that can just kill off a creature with a creature ability either, which the one being used looks like the 1/2 buffed with Might of the Masses.

Feb 10th 2012 5:45PM (Joystiq)Actually, I think it's the archenemy game type, 3v1 (you can see the archenemy deck stack right above the top right corner of the black card in play). Looks like the green deck is trying to destroy Tezzeret's only creature by using a creature ability, and Tezzeret is saying "nope" by killing it with the black card (what is that, Go For The Throat? I can never remember what that one's called, and it sure is small on my screen), while the other 2 players are attacking him.
Joystiq Top 10 of 2011: Dark Souls
Jan 2nd 2012 2:34AM (Joystiq)I agree with the not being too hard point. It's challenging, but in a way that most games don't present their challenge. In Dark Souls, every enemy, every environment, and every environment+enemy type combination have their own difficulty curve, and they're sometimes fairly steep. What I mean by the environment is you have to learn where it is and isn't safe to fight, the game is notorious for pitfalls (and you have to memorize what you've just walked over so you can safely backstep in combat), and environment+enemy type meaning that enemy A might behave exactly the same in environments A & B, but you have to approach it differently in the 2 environments because the layout doesn't allow you the same strategy in both.
I platinumed Demon's Souls and am working on the one for Dark Souls right now. They were definitely challenging on their first run through each, even Dark Souls gave me a lot of deaths moving into it (I finished my Demon's Souls platinum literally the day before Dark Souls released, and had been playing it pretty constantly for the week leading up to it). I died a lot, simply because while the skills translated over, how to apply those skills was different.
The second runs through both of the games, though, freaking cakewalks. Several bosses haven't even touched me in Dark Souls, which I consider to be the harder of the two, though not necessarily by much (there are a couple difficult-for-the-wrong-reason sections in Dark Souls eg. Capra Demon's room size, Ceaseless Discharge's damage output and such [though Demon's Souls had a world design I felt was unfair too - easiest zones with hardest bosses, hardest zones with easiest bosses, which I bet contributed to its difficulty perception]). The game takes patience and dedication to learn the mechanics and AI behavior, but once you've got that down (not ridiculously easier said than done) the game isn't too bad to get through.
And yeah, it doesn't care that you screwed up. Your fault, deal with it. Better hope you can do what you did last time - and more - on this next attempt.
I also agree with the notion that people don't necessarily like it just because it's hard. It's not fun because it's hard, it's fun and hard. It's a great game. One of my favorites, and definitely among my picks for best of 2011. The soundtrack is amazing too, and fits the game perfectly. I love this team's sound direction.
