Welp, there goes my favourite thing about Halo's multiplayer: the fact that you don't have to have been playing every day since day 1 to be competitive at it. I'm suddenly eeling a lot more sour about this game.
This happened to me on the 21st of December. Received an email saying I'd made some Microsoft Points purchases when I had not. Logged on to find that my Windows Live ID password had been changed and someone else was using my account.
To their credit though, Xbox Support was actually really helpful. Took down my info and my system's serial number, locked the account down immediately and set about getting it back. Actually got the account back today, meaning it only took just under 2 weeks to take care of.
Still not completely fixed though as my MS points are all gone and have yet to be refunded, and they moved me to a different WIndows Live ID for now for security purposes, but my old one still has the password changed and a fraudulent email as the alternate contact. Gonna give them a ring about that tomorrow. On the plus side though, they gave me two free months of Gold even though I was only offline for two weeks. Also refunded the money that was charged, but the card is now cancelled and the bank already cleared them off as fraudulent, so no real change there.
With regards to Microsoft's comments though, this is insulting. I've never given my login information to anyone, even my friends. Even the technician I spoke to at Xbox Support said that it's a widespread issue and that it's not a phishing scam, but they haven't locked down the problem yet. They're pulling the exact same bit of stupidity that Sony did and not sending out a firm warning to everybody when frankly they should be sending an immediate warning to anyone who could possibly have their credit cards compromised.
