University: Gaming addiction is real but over-diagnosed

Mar 27th 2007 3:02PM (Joystiq)
Of course gaming addiction is real. I have pictures of someone's computer area, and they're a true WoW addict. I'll put it this way, her room is most like a dumpster that hasn't been emptied in months.

Stuntman: Ignition - like Burnout on steroids

"19. Maybe he means the Crash mode in Burnout, you dumb whores."

Except, Stuntman has you follow a strict sequence of events, rarely with your car getting completely trashed.

Crash mode in Burnout the object is to make as big of a mess as you can, with no restrictions on exactly how you do it.

THEY STILL DON'T SOUND THE SAME.

Stuntman: Ignition - like Burnout on steroids

Stuntman was fun, for a while. Then they started throwing things at you which were nearly blind luck if you got it to work properly. Not to mention there was never a sense of teamwork when you had to do stuff with other vehicles. They were always running on very strict rails.

And of course the load times were terrible.

Wii Zelda reaches one million in US sales

"What's a Wii owner without Twilight Princess?"

Someone not all that interested in it. I borrowed it from my friend. Played it until the Water temple. Lost interest. Personally I've never really been interested in the series. It's not for everyone.

New York looking to clamp down on walk-and-play gamers

"B) Isn't that a photo of Park Street in Boston?"

Yes actually it is. I pass that sign on a regular basis. Both by jaywalking, and terrorizing drivers on my bike.

"how could anyone think that was a bomb?"

Easy. The first one was reported by some poor lady riding a bus who saw it attached to one of the beams in a bridge. A bridge that just happened to be right near an MBTA station (subway for non Boston people) and I-93, a major highway for the area. It was broad daylight so the lights would not have been seen, and all it looked like was a suspicious device where it shouldn't be. On top of that other ones were found near other major transit areas. Like near the entrance to the harbor, and I believe the Longfellow bridge.

Yes, when it's dark and the LEDs are going it's fairly obvious what it is, but in the daylight, it's not as clear.

Authorities probably shouldn't have gone off as much as they did. But, by the same token you'd think that marketing folks at a major broadcasting company would have enough brains about them to realize that making suspicious devices and throwing them up on major points of interest (for terrorists as well as normal people) would be qualified as a "bad idea."

Vista security too tight on casual games, claims WildTangent

Jan 30th 2007 12:32PM (Joystiq)
"Wahh wahh wahh! Vista makes it too hard for me to invade people's computers and privacy! Wahh wahh wahh!"

Shall we get some cheese to go with their whine? Perhaps Limburger so it stinks like their software.

Presumably how you'll play Mortal Kombat on Wii

"2. How do we do normal punches or combos?"

Most fighting games are all about the combos. You're not supposed to be doing just standard kicks and punches. Just fancy moves.

Cheater. The system should at least function properly.

PSPredictions for 2007, as seen by PSP Fanboy

Jan 3rd 2007 9:41AM (Joystiq)
18. "My predictions? Following the PS1 hack for PSP, that lets you play ANY PS1 game on PSP, Sony will give up trying to sell the games, and instead release some legal means to let you rip your own PS1 library onto your PSP."

Um, this is Sony we're talking about. The company who would rather install rootkits on computers than let people rip the music they legally bought and put it on their MP3 player. Hell will freeze over long before Sony allows people to legally rip their games onto the PSP.
