@briscott A large majority of Wii games do not have a system in place to receive patches.
Zelda was patched because Nintendo released a tool that you downloaded off the wii shop channel and it altered your game save. The game does not have the ability to retrieve patches built in so they had to issue a workaround.
Before this Nintendo made you mail in your SD cards with the broken save and before that you basically had to deal with it and hope it doesn't happen the next time around.
