Wish they'd release this for Android. :(

Localized Monster World IV bundled into downloadable collection

Oh my gosh we used to play those Monster World games on the original Sega Master System (SMS). Great games for their time, but also very difficult and unforgiving (as most games of that generation were).

Wish this was for PS3... I'd be all over it, and so would my cousin(s)!

Silent Hill: Downpour review: When you're strange

Mar 13th 2012 5:18PM (Joystiq)
@Shovelmage Good question. Homecoming (on PS3) was totally unplayable for me without Y-Axis Inversion. Very glad to hear they included it in this game. Also happy they decided to include trophies this time around.

Just picked the game up this morning. :) Long-time SH fan. Can't wait for the sun to go down so I can scare the bejeebus out of myself! xD

Do Japanese RPGs need good stories?

@Pure Black World Tendency Silent Hill also has a very memorable and unforgettable story line. :) Uncharted also has a great story so far!

Do Japanese RPGs need good stories?

You hit the nail on the head with your "The battle system is pretty good, but the story is laughable."

It's too bad that the FF13 battle system didn't really bloom until much later in the game. Battles become very immersive when you're switching paradigms every 15 seconds! I didn't realize how much I loved the battle system until after I downed my first Adamantortoise. :)

But the story... Wow. Talk about watered down and filled with "glittering generalities." They throw words like "hope" and "courage" and "love" hoping it counts for a story but it really doesn't. The only two characters that had any kind of background story to unfold seemed to be Vanille and Fang. Every other character was boring and generic.

I only overlooked the lack of a n interesting story because I've been a Final Fantasy fan since it first came out on the NES when I was 7.

OK, back to farming Adamantortoises... Gotta buy them Trapezohedrons. :|

Final Fantasy 7. Final Fantasy 8. Final Fantasy 9. Final Fantasy 4 and 6. Talk about amazing character development. When Aeris died, I cried. If Snow or Hope died? LOL. Couldn't care less.

Twisted Metal review: On cruise control

Feb 15th 2012 1:08PM (Joystiq)
@iTod I have to agree that this review seems a bit off base.

After reading the review I had very low hopes for Twisted Metal, but I bought it anyway and now am totally glad I did!

Played through Sweet Tooth's story last night and was having MEGA FUN the entire time! No frustration at all and I'm usually the kind of person that gets frustrated very quickly. I was playing on "Normal Mode." What mode were you playing on, author?

The maps are incredible and there are just as many hidden places to find as there were in TM2. Visibility is never an issue in combat, unlike something like BF3 and its annoying supression effect.

Two beefs:
The multiplayer progression notifications are shoddy and non-existent. Last night I earned a bunch of multiplayer unlocks but didn't even realize I did until I quit game and went into the "Rewards" section. It would be nice if the game notified you when you receive an unlock or a reward.

My biggest beef:
"Driving in reverse" is SUPER AWKWARD because the X-Axis is reversed. In games like BF3, GTA, Saints Row, and others, the X-Axis is reversed when driving in reverse. It is not the same for PS3 Twisted Metal and it would be really great if they could add the option for us to reverse said X-Axis! Please please add this option for us, Twisted Metal creators. :)

I can not wait to get off work today to play. The game is super fun and online mode is even more fun. Nothing like freezin' and smashin' some foos that have been talkin' smack! :D

Twisted Metal review: On cruise control

@CaptainProtonX I believe the recent popularity of online passes is the game makers' way of trying to make money off of used game sales.

If someone sells their game back to Best Buy and another person buys it, the game makers don't make any money off the 2nd sale... But if the person who bought the used game has to /buy an online pass/ to play, the company at least makes $10 bucks off the pass!

Twisted Metal review: On cruise control

@reclaim Thanks for the tip. :) Can't wait to try it! Sounds like it'd be pretty powerful when combined with a heavier vehicle. *looks at the clock* Ugh, work needs to be over!

Twisted Metal review: On cruise control

I just picked this game up from Best Buy. :) Can't wait to play it tonight!

Used to be a huge fan of Twisted Metal 2 for the PS1. Single-player was always lame and frustrating, it's all about multiplayer! I'm also very glad to hear that there are new game modes, not just Deathmatch like back in the day. Mostly interested in the "team modes." Teams + Microphones + Vehicle Combat... Hell yeah!

I hope there's lots of environmental stuff to demolish, like there was in Twisted Metal 2. :) It was always fun exploring the maps and trying to find hidden items/healths/places.

Wooooo :) Not phased by the bad review. (Though I gotta admit it'll probably take some time to get used to the complex control scheme. My only beef with the demo was that there seemed to be some unnecessary game elements -- like Turbo Dash... Isn't a regular Turbo enough?)

That "Stacking" game was pretty "Meh."
