Feb 14th 2012 6:08PM (Joystiq)That said, I think the Vita will have to really gun for the iPad, or really Kindle Fire crowd with solid media options and app (e.g. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Reader, etc) to convince this potential market that spending money on the Vita is better than a Kindle Fire, which has already shown that there's a big market for budget tablets.
Heck, I really hope my game can come out on it though I don't know what kind of market or price point it would be a good fit for. I just think it would show that there's support for casual, family friendly content on the device and I know from my job that a HUGE number of people are already buying tablets for their kids.

Feb 9th 2012 10:42PM (Joystiq)Batman: Arkham City shipped 6 million in 2011
Feb 9th 2012 10:13AM (Joystiq)Shipped is always the higher number plus the distributor can more easily track the number. Retailers wheel and deal with distributors all over the place. Some game won't be bought buy publishers so the publisher will put it in the store with the decision to return it or clearance it at their discretion.
The market is too unpredictable and unstable for Best Buy or Game Stop to say "give me 500,000 copies of game x" in most cases and just sell them wholesale. When a distributor sales a product wholesale it's guaranteed revenue so the retailer usually gets a better deal. If the retailer won't buy or the distributor won't even sell the product wholesale then retailer takes less risk but usually get's less profit. That's to combat the whole "I'll wait until it's clearanced at 20 bucks" mentality heavily cultivated after the economic downturn.
Games are cheap products and "most" of the time are sold wholesale. Other products, like the Kindle Fire are returned to Amazon rather sold at clearance or open box so market prices are kept consistent.

Feb 9th 2012 9:59AM (Joystiq)I had friends arrested for doing charity work in Norway because it broke some strange immigrant labor law. That's right, they were building homes in the countryside and got arrested.
That country is so isolationist they should just put up one of those high frequency fences like from Lost and be done with it.
Batman: Arkham City shipped 6 million in 2011
Feb 8th 2012 9:57PM (Joystiq)This is true but they get much more money for the items that actually sell. The main reason games have a base purchase is because it's more expensive to manage two way shipping distribution than to artificially hold games at a regular 59.99 price point.
Love the game, glad they shipped that many.
