Double Fine's adventure coming to PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android devices [Update]

Feb 16th 2012 1:54PM (Joystiq)
@InfernoShade Why not? Obviously things like Kickstarter are a great tool for unknowns, but I don't see why anyone should exclude themselves just because they've used more mainstream methods in the past.

Should labelless bands who had contracts in the past be excluded? Or comic writers that have had some gigs at Marvel? I've seen some big names in the past in all sorts of categories looking to fund particularly niche and personal projects that mainstream publishers wouldn't be interested in. Hell, I just had a quick browse around currently active projects and found something from Garth Ennis http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1427653332/erf

@shedi football He was one of the major figures in the old Lucas Arts point & click division - Full Throttle and Grim Fandango are his, and he co-designed the first two Monkey Islands and Day of the Tentacle. Then he founded Double Fine and was designer for Psychonauts and Brutal Legend.

If you haven't played any of the above you should definitely give them a shot, Psychonauts is the easiest to get hold of cheap - Steam version is the best as they recently added some nice achievements and made the infamously horrible meat circus level easier. It's a very funny platformer with good characters, and some wonderfully weird level design, especially late on.

@(Unverified) *shrug* it's the kind of viral you get when the progenitor is a tweet from a well-respected guy whose followers include a lot of really big names in the games industry, This was RTd by some cool people and got onto most of the big gaming websites pretty fast.

Also helps when you're offering something with heavy nostalgia value for a price in the impulse-buy pricerange and with a potentially unique insight into game development in the bagain.
