Rumor: 'Army of Four' exposed via Twitter

Mar 4th 2012 2:42PM (Joystiq)
@Huey2k2 I really just think it's a matter of common decency. The story here is that there is reason to believe that there is a new Army of Two game on the horizon. Publishing the source of this rumor isn't necessary.

I don't think Joystiq "outed" the guy; I'm sure the powers that be found out right away. And yes, the guy made the mistake of breaking NDA by putting some information on his Twitter. But his personal Twitter is much different than the front page of a popular game news site. And he can redact the information from Twitter when he realizes he made the goof.

Odds are he just got excited and made a mistake. We've all made mistakes before. I just think it's less than decent to publicize the personal mistakes that a person makes, especially when it will already be impacting his career.

The news is the goof he made, not the person who made it. Putting his name, his picture, and links to his Twitter account on the front page is just an uncouth thing to do.

Joystiq Writers...

Can you please stop fanning these sorts of flames by naming the sources? You're propagating the names and accidents of real human beings that will have to pay the consequences for these breaches of NDA. I know you're not *trying* to make a smear campaign, but that's the effect it can have.

The article does not lose any of its flavor or merit by simply having the source be unlisted or anonymous. Please consider this in the future.

@Mcmax3000 Have you ever looked into it? These sorts of things don't tend to be publicized.

@Cave Johnson Sorry, poor use of pronouns on my part. The owner of the LinkedIn profile is the one who broke NDA, not Joystiq.

Ben, I understand that this is great investigative journalism, and that for the fans of CoD, this is great news. What I would like you to please consider is posting information about the person who sprung the leak so prominently on your front page.

I work in the industry, and breaking NDA (which this clearly counts as) is a really big deal. I'm not saying the guy should get a free pass or anything; odds are that his company will punish him, and he may otherwise be blacklisted in the industry depending on exact circumstances.

But what I am saying is that you're making it worse for him. If I made the same kind of slip-up, I would feel awful. This guy's a human being, so please think about the impact this could have on his life.

(btw, to be clear: I'm not saying pull the article, just the source)
