Fez wins 2012 IGF 'Seumas McNally Grand Prize'
Mar 8th 2012 4:50PM (Joystiq)I think RPS did a good job covering this topic -- and I would have to agree with Fish on the points he makes -- one of which is: until the game is out and the game is actually successful it's his responsibility to market the game to the best of his ability.
IGF has already announced its intention to restrict re-entries into the competition in the future. Though, to be honest, the problem here is that the initial award was given to him when the game was but a prototype. Some might take this to indicate the blame still rests on him as surely he knew it was a prototype. I somewhat doubt he had any idea the development time would spiral out the way it did, however.
Fez wins 2012 IGF 'Seumas McNally Grand Prize'
Mar 8th 2012 3:24PM (Joystiq)I would expect everyone on here to at least be aware that making a game is hard. Taking 5 years to make a game is not unheard of even for large studios with huge teams. Why should you take offense that a 3 person team has found it necessary to take as long?
The game's prior award was for art if i'm not mistaken. Why should him having previously won in an unrelated category prevent him from winning the grand prize?
Now, I think we can all agree his statement re: japanese games was in bad taste. So if you want to b*!^# about the dude, stick to that. But if you do, it might be worth your while to consider whether one sentence is worth condemning an individual on -- and let's face it, for most of us, this one vitriol sentence of his is all we have to judge his personality on.
