Gears of War 2 'All Fronts' retail compilation on July 28

May 6th 2009 12:54PM (Joystiq)
Since the DLC for GoW isn't available in Germany (the game was never released here), this might just give a chance at getting my hands on the content via import.

I'll give it thumbs up.

New Resident Evil 5 trailer totally simple to follow

Feb 20th 2009 5:36AM (Joystiq)
What the...?

The visuals are gorgeous, but what's up with the rest?

The story seems so stereotype.
What's Star Wars music doing there?
What's with those extremely cheesy characters there?

Please god, don't let them have gotten their inspirations from Uwe Boll!

Watch the prologue to Prince of Persia's 'Epilogue' DLC

Feb 19th 2009 8:33PM (Joystiq)
I have to agree. Although I usually hate cliffhanger endings, the Prince of Persia ending was a work of art.

Hopefully, they will just add the DLC as an interludium, integrating it into the normal game like some kind of "Director's Cut" without changing the ending as such.

Dead Space started life on the original Xbox

Feb 13th 2009 3:18AM (Joystiq)
If it REALLY looked that good on the original Xbox, they definitely got my hopes up for the Wii version nit getting ugly at all.
But I have to agree. This looks almost TOO GOOD to be on the original box...

Branching Dialogue: Don't shoot, or I'll move! (A Resident Evil 5 defense)

Feb 10th 2009 2:24AM (Joystiq)
To all our friends going like "But you didn't complain in RE4!":

You tend to forget one little thing... look at a gamecube controller once more... and now tell me, how you would have created a run and shoot control with that... see? You just can't, as the c-stick is simply not usable for aiming. This is the only reason all the Resident Evil games have the stant to shoot controls: by the time the games were made, there simply was no other way to make it with the given gamepads. But nowadays, I see no more excuse for limiting the player in his movement, creating artificial difficulty, where a good level design would have done better (I'm sorry, but there is no way of avoiding the comparison with Dead Space).
Games need to evolve. You can't just do a RE4 with glorified graphics. Standards are rising all the time. Imagine creating a RTS where you can only select 12 units at once... while it was ok in Starcraft, due to the technical limitations by that time, it would pretty much a bleh in todays games.
Resident Evil used to be horror games with the focus on puzzles and some zombie shooting in between. With the RE5 demo, it seems to have become nothing but a third person shooter. And as such, it simply has to compare against the current generation of those shooters. That's how the market works, after all.

EA confirms multiplatform Mass Effect 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company sequel

Feb 3rd 2009 6:16PM (Joystiq)
Mass Effect 2? Oh.. what a suprise.. wouldn't have expected this in a... trilogy.... yeah...

But then again... there was the Advent Rising train.. huh?

Amazon launches casual game download service

Feb 3rd 2009 9:59AM (Joystiq)
I would also be carefull in dismissing this too early.

While Steam certainly set the mark for the core market, Amazon casual aproach actually might be a good idea. For just under 10 bucks and not requiring a killer pc, this is just what many people look for: a few hours of simple fun, no strings attached.
And considering todays production and licensing cost for the core market, selling a million casual games is probably just as lucrative as selling a million core games, although it might not set of as much publicity.
