Report: Obsidian hit with layoffs; South Park team affected, future next-gen title canceled

Mar 14th 2012 4:13PM (Joystiq)
@Cyclone Jack For me, Alpha Protocol was just so bad. I had the 360 version so no mouse problems. The controls were simply so bad, it was unplayable and I gave it three chances before I sold it for peanuts.

Definitely one of the biggest disappointments I've ever had in gaming. I was a huge fan of KOTOR2 despite all it's hate, so I was hoping for something just as good.

A touching video interview with Ralph Baer

Mar 9th 2012 7:11PM (Joystiq)
I won't lie, that choked me up a little bit when he explained he still enjoys his craft despite his wife and friends passing away.

I will still laud the family-oriented fun of the earliest computer games, and board games, which have really taken a backseat in recent years. There's just something more personal about a board game, which has it's benefits and drawbacks.

It sounds sad, but when I was younger I didn't have many friends to play with, so video games (and their single player fun) were a great way to have fun. I could never say I prefer single or multiplayer more than the other. They're both equally enjoyable, but very different experiences. Even when I watch films or TV with friends, it feels like a different experience as we usually talk about what's going on. When you're alone, it's just you, the media and your thoughts.

I fully agree with the notion that games are a developing art-form. So much more effort goes into making a game these days when you compare it to a music album, or even big budget films. But no one would ever deny music or cinema are forms of art.

Sorry if this turned into rambling...this video stirred up some feelings I haven't really spoken about in a long while.

UK: Buy a 3G Vita from Vodafone, get free memory card, Wipeout 2048

Feb 10th 2012 4:48PM (Joystiq)
Apparently Japan will have larger memory cards (32GB, maybe larger), so I'll likely import. It's region-free! Also, WipeOut wasn't much fun when I played it, so I'm going to avoid this deal. I'm also with Vodafone, which doesn't seem to be of any benefit here.

On a lighter note, Uncharted and UMvC3 were amazing, as was a little game called Escape Plan. Reminded me a lot of Limbo. There was a whole bunch of games I never got to try like Rayman, but I have to say the PS Vita blows the 3DS out of the water. Never been so excited for a handheld console release, and this is from a guy who played the 3DS before it was released as well (just Mario Kart 7 and the Pac-Man game, but still).

My only advice is if anyone gets a chance to try playing it, do so. Then decide if it's worth waiting for the price to go down or not. Everyone will assign their own value to it.

You won't win Let's Play: Ancient Greek Punishment, that's the point

@Azurist I did it too man. I have no excuse. I thought it was the only game possible to beat, since there's no number between 99.999999999 and 100 (except my adding more 9s).

I laughed. Pretty funny overall.

Bungie: Maddie reference not related to missing British girl

Sep 27th 2008 10:59AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Thinking you know someone, getting high and mighty and insulting them? Now that's something to be ashamed of.

It's neither shallow (look it up) or pathetic (look that up too). Possibly selfish if anything, so I'm sorry if I've offended you, but it's the truth. I have no reason to care, this is a private thing that only family and friends should be affected by.

It's people who pretend to care (like you) that really piss me off.

Bungie: Maddie reference not related to missing British girl

Sep 27th 2008 9:20AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Madeleine was a year-long media escapade, there was no way to avoid it in the UK, and probably much of Europe. Massive appeals all across Europe to try to find her.

I wouldn't think it would have got much air time outside of Europe, but we had it for so long. We still get updates in the media to this day! This is an article from today, about an alleged sighting of her in Majorca (Spain): http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Madeleine-McCann-Police-Search-After-British-Couple-Spot-Missing-Youngster-In-Majorca/Article/200809415107726?lpos=World_News_News_Your_Way_Region_2&lid=ARTICLE_15107726_Madeleine_McCann%3A_Police_Search_After_British_Couple_Spot_Missing_Youngster_In_Majorca

It's a defining case of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_white_girl_syndrome. It's fucking sad. I stopped caring about a week after she disappeared because the media coverage was so relentless.

So yeah, this is probably why we're pissed at Bungie. I never, ever want to hear about Madeleine McCann ever again, except perhaps if she is found alive and well. And even then I wouldn't care that much.
