What types of things ruin our Halo 3 experience

Oct 21st 2007 4:42PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Same as in Halo 2 really. When you get really, REALLY dumb teammates without headsets.

You're begging and pleading with them to grab the flag they're standing beside to keep it from respawning, which you spent about 5 minutes crouch walking and owning anyone who came across you on your one-man flag seizure taking it from the base, killing the entire opposite team and then defending it against the now respawned defending team multiple times, moving it gradually closer to the scoring destination while your teammates were quite happy to stand around and punch each other and take any decent weapons near your spawn point, run directly to the enemy, fail to use said decent weapons and die, giving the other team all the good weapons on the whole map.

I've noticed on a few occasions that it's far easier playing 1 vs 4 CTF after your whole team quits than having 4 vs 4 with three useless bastards in your team who you try to rely on, on occasion, and are sorely let down.

But I suppose that's what I get for playing team-based matchmaking by myself.

I'm so bummed. If they had QOTSA's 'Go With The Flow' instead of '3s and 7s' I'd be so getting this.

There's one in London.

Halo 3 has no online co-op and yes, we're bitter

Jul 20th 2007 9:59AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I was disappointed that Halo TWO didn't have online co-op, and I loved Gears' online co-op.

To think Halo 3 will flat out not have online co-op is very saddening, but I'll still get it obviously. It's not a major priority for Bungie compared to perfectly finishing the Halo trilogy story-arc and refining the online multiplayer which people will no doubt be playing for years to come (as we still do with Halo 2).

They may be able to implement online co-op via patching in the future, but I doubt it. Still, at least you can still play two-player Halo 3 campaign on the same console, which will be just as fun as Halo 2's at least.

Bungie Update hints at vehicular gametype

Jul 1st 2007 1:14AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Me and some friends played a version of rally around Valhalla in Mongooses, two people to a Mongoose, with the guy on the back having both rockets and laser.

Then after each lap you'd have to change over and the driver would be on the back and the 'gunner' would drive. The vehicles were indestructible, everyone had tons and tons of shield and wouldn't die.

Needless to say, it was hysterical, but obviously it was only fair if all the players honoured the rules. You could cheat and take a shortcut if you wanted or not change over after each lap, because it obviously wasn't implemented by the gametype...but maybe it could be with whatever Bungie conjures up.

It was one of the best custom gametypes I ever played on the Halo 3 Beta, and we did some pretty insane stuff.

European 360 sales "have hit a wall"

Jun 21st 2007 1:22AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'm Scottish and 20. I know only two people who also have a 360, and they're both women. But most of the people I know are women so I suppose I'm not a very good survey conductor... >_>

Even when I had just an Xbox, the PS2 was the local champion, and I knew only ONE person who also had an Xbox. And he was an assclown modder.

The reason it's not selling anymore is because everyone who wants one, has one or can't afford it right now. There's been no big game release since Gears Of War (November, with that heavily-played Mad World advert around Christmas on top of it), so I doubt sales of the 360 will increase over here until September (Halo 3, Bioshock AND rumoured Mass Effect release dates), but they WILL increase again for sure, especially as people have realised, more outwith of the gaming community, that the PS3 relatively sucks so far. Christmas here will likely be better for 360 sales than last Christmas.

And GTA is ridiculously popular here, so I expect the news of exclusive 360 content for GTA4 to sway quite a few Sony loyalists. I know a lot of PS2 owners who had a PS2, primarily for the GTA games.

The sheer volume of lag and the blatant host factor on Halo 2 makes this the 'best connection owners get a prize' contest.
