Weekly Webcomic Wrapup can feel it coming in the air tonight

Jan 14th 2008 10:46AM (Joystiq)
The only remotely logical reason why some must be voting for the PA cartoon is nothing more than a 'Beavis & Butthead'-esque reaction to the inclusion of the word 'nipples'. It damn sure can't be because of any actual humor involved.

Boy Saves Sister from Moose Attack with Skills Learned in Warcraft Video Game

Dec 11th 2007 4:02PM (Switched)
In other news, young Hans Jørgen Olsen has now been hired by the Norwegian government as Minister of Tourism. He's already crafted his first ad campaign even:

See the loveli lakes!
The wonderful telephone system.
And mani interesting furry animals
Including the majestik moose!

A moose once bit my sister....

No realli! She was karving her initials on the moose with the sharpened end of an interspace toothbrush given her by Svenge - her brother-in-law - an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian movies: 'The Hot Hands of an Oslo Dentist', 'Fillings of Passion', 'The Huge Molars of Horst Nordfink'.

Mynd you, moose bites kan be pretti nasti...

Well my current rig isn't embarassing, certainly on the upper end of the overall spectrum I'd think:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600

Western Digital "Raptor" 74 gig 10,000 RPM SATA drive

LucasArts, BioWare collaborating on...something

Oct 30th 2007 10:05AM (Joystiq)
Lucasarts didn't 'authorize' the NGE....they were the ones that pushed it in the first place. SOE gets the constant negative rap for it but LA was the driving force behind it, not SOE.

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup: Stink-O Man edition

Oct 15th 2007 9:13AM (Joystiq)
I'd like to know what you're smoking...while it was kind of humorous, PA paled in comparison to several others this week. I agree with the other guy, it could have done without the added comment at the end, but it still wouldn't have been as funny as a couple others.

Last week it was almost impossible to make up my mind because none of them were really funny. This week it's almost impossible to make up my mind because most of them are *very* funny. The three best are Lego Batman, Link's pen-following obsession & Wiimo, but I think I gotta go with Wiimo in a slight edge over the rest. It not only is hilarious but it's the most original/creative of the entire slate this week.

Meh...IMO absolutely none of them were truly funny at all. The only one that came remotely close was God Mode to me, and even that one was highly iffy.

Everquest movie moving forward (directly to video we presume)

Oct 9th 2007 10:15AM (Joystiq)
The idea of an Everquest movie is beyond laughable to be sure, but...."waning popularity of Everquest every year"? Are you kidding me? If you're talking solely about Everquest 1, ok, I'll grant you that one, but the overall franchise/IP and particularly EQ2 isn't close to waning every year. Aside from perhaps EVE, it's one of the few non-WoW MMO's that's actually gotten better and gained popularity the last year or two. Is it (along with everything else) dwarfed by WoW's shadow? No argument there at all...but a difference in comparative level of interest doesn't equate to 'waning' interest. I never even played EQ1 mind you so I'm not speaking as someone with blind loyalty to the world of Norrath or anything, and I didn't play EQ2 from launch, but I've played for almost 2 years now, and especially since the Echoes of Faydwer expansion launched I've seen a steady influx of not only new players in general, but a notable number of people who've gotten sick of WoW that have started playing EQ2 over the last year. And that's not to say it or anything else foreseeable right now would or will ever overtake WoW's subscription base...but if you're implying anything connected to the 'Everquest' universe in a general sense suffers from daily waning interest, in my experience that's completely false.

@Neebs:

Yeah, CAD focuses on its own characters more...and its own characters are funny. He normally doesn't need to go outside the CAD universe to be funny, which shows his gift and talent. If you haven't actually taken the time to have read it over the years and be familiar with the characters though, I suppose I could see why you wouldn't think they're funny somehow. It's how most comic strips through the years have been done though, they're thematic with a set of familiar characters. Constant random errata shot from the dark can certainly be funny too, but the potential for humor isn't as easy nor as frequent.

CAD was by far the funniest, and I don't see how you can even compare it to PA's entry in terms of sheer humor. For the life of me, I'll never understand this mindless zombie following PA gets. Sure, they're hilarious sometimes, but nowhere near as often as the voting tends to skew. Whenever I've voted I always vote purely off the humor involved, not out of 'fanboy devotion' to any one particular strip.
