New DS television spot from the UK

Nov 17th 2006 12:31PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Interestingly, this is a summation of lots of other adverts. Each scenario she appears in during that clip has its own full 30 second advert. The hairdressing one features said lady playing AC:WW with another person being styled, while the overtly gay hairdresser gets impressed over the fact that you can shop in the game.

It's an interesting idea. It's not really at a saturation level of coverage yet, but sitting down for an evening of viewing on the commercial channels means you'll inevitably see one of these. Or those irritating adverts for Brain Training with Chris Tarrant.

Elite Beat Agents track list

Oct 17th 2006 9:46AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
You're welcome, DS Fanboy news team!

I've said elsewhere, the tracklisting is pretty much as expected. Ouendan had a tracklisting catering to populist Japanese tastes, why shouldn't EBA? It's easier (and more profitable) to market to the public at large than a minority who'd love a tracklist consisting largely of Pink Floyd and Muse.

If this is like the UK adverts for the DS, that initial fanfare and the circles eminating from the Wii will be the Wii's startup screen.

UK stores to get Wii countdown clocks?

Aug 14th 2006 4:04PM (Joystiq)
With some computer software, especially software that is used primarily within the American business community, the option to change the date to the UK standard is either difficult to locate within the settings or simply not present. I'm guessing that's all that happened here - this is a memoing program designed for the US market that hasn't been formatted properly for UK use.

Similarly, My DS has no option to set the date to the UK standard.

UK stores to get Wii countdown clocks?

Aug 14th 2006 7:46AM (Joystiq)
About two years ago, Nintendo did give to certain stores free POS (point of sale) equipment which had an LED countdown clock (approx 50cm by 8cm) which was embedded in a metallic surround. This surround could then have posters clipped onto it, posters specially made by Nintendo advertising the newest anticipated game. I remember seeing the same clock used both for Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat and a GameCube Pokemon title in a Glasgow branch of Gamestation.

It's likely that these stores still have these clocks and that Nintendo still has a big collection of them at their warehouse (it's not the kind of thing that would be thrown away, after all). I'm guessing that the Wii countdown clocks will just amount to another poster to go onto this surround.

Apple Stores in Scotland soon?

Mar 8th 2006 11:44AM (TUAW.com)
David - there's a great little hidden Mac shop just off of Byres Road called ThinkMac. They don't have a huge amount of stock but they do have a ridiculously comprehensive knowledge (as well as some 15 year old Macs on display!).

I'm hoping that a Store does open on Buchanan Street in Glasgow. Now that it's one of the four most profitable high streets in Britain, it seems more and more likely. Plus, hopefully it'll mean a good job for a few years once I've finished university!

It's our 2nd birthday and we're giving you the presents!
