Mechwarrior Tactics features cinematic replays, more details stomp out

Is it just me, or does this sound like a larger studio adopting some of the lessons that Frozen Synapse laid out last year? If so, I'm all for it.

They did. Look at the tags. It's for PC.

SoulCalibur 5's price slashed to $40 on Amazon

Yeah. As much as I liked SCIV when I bought it ($40) I couldn't help but wince when I saw it for $15 later on.

Of course, the danger with fighters is that the majority moves on, and the people that remain online are fine-tuned killing machines. That was my experience with SF4AE, anyway.

Do Japanese RPGs need good stories?

When your genre of choice goes from being "top of the charts" and seeing multiple prime console releases a year to a couple of okay entries in a generation (aside from portable games), I think that qualifies.

No, they don't. Pokemon, for example.

By this criteria, I declare "The World Ends With You" to be the best JRPG of all time.

"By the end, they can call down comets from the heavens and instigate supernovas. That's what I call a character arc."
That's not an arc. That's exponential growth.

And that's why JRPG stories are usually so terrible: they usually have to hang a narrative around you becoming god-powerful to coincide with the gameplay; there's no intent to show the characters emotional growth and change in any significant way.

I think that's why villains (Kefka, Sephiroth, etc) are always so well remembered in JRPGs. Your encounters with them in the story usually allow their current form to reflect their position in their character arc. But your character, while gradually getting more powerful, usually doesn't undergo any radical changes.

South Korean rating outs Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013

It looks like a multiplayer game. Tezzeret isn't blocking with a tapped creature, that's Koth's creature, who is attacking in tandem with the other players.

The reason they don't do this is because the "competitive" scene works the same way- old cards are eventually made illegal in "standard" format in favor of new ones, so they can keep selling you new stuff.

Why let you play with the old ones, when they can just encourage you to buy the new ones instead?

You know, as logically-backwards as Texas is, at least they support the game developers in-state (especially Austin).
