Minority Report UI designer John Underkoffler talks about the future of gestures

May 8th 2010 4:09AM (Joystiq)
It seems to me that a 2 finger solution would be awesome. I'm a little surprised microsoft/sony haven't gone for something a little more similar to the one in Minority Report.

A small, light, 2 finger glove with a couple of LEDs on the thumb and forefinger would allow for hand tracking, rotation tracking, gripping and throwing motions, zooming, tapping, etc... pretty much all the actions you'd need for games.

Miyamoto: Nintendo 'desperate to realize' online business

Huh? I can order a pizza with my Wii. What more online functionality could you possibly need? *

Star Wars: The Old Republic gets three new characters ... one gets his own book

How many jedi did Aurra Sing kill? Is it sad that she was the best character from the prequels and she got cut out without even getting to utter a line. Actually that's probably why she didn't turn into a huge disappointment.

I really wish i HADN'T watched Clone Wars before I watched RotS, because it blew RotS out of the water and made it seem like such a disappointment.

First Bulletstorm screens surprisingly void of bullets

The backdrops have a slight feeling of Doom about them. The cool, frantic, colourful Doom of 1 and 2, not the cramped dark grey doom of Doom3.

TBH, I'm still waiting for a game to capture the wonder and feel of the spaces in Doom 1&2, so I hope this game can be the one to pull it off.

People can Fly can sure make gorgeous levels. Painkiller had some stunning level settings, particularly the final level, which looked amazing.

Of course, painkiller also had terrible level design. The places were imaginative and beautiful, but they weren't used well by the gameplay, they didn't work well with the enemies, the pacing was off, and that stunning last level was also totally annoying and broken.

Fingers crossed that they've kept the great level artists and hired a few more level/gameplay designers.

NPD: Red Steel 2 sold 50,000 copies through April 3

they sell, it's just that they don't seel big on launch.

It's only really games and cinema movies that have this "sell all your games in the first week" attitude... if you look at albums, dvds, books etc.. then they sell over a much longer time.. and wii games seem kinda similar.

I guess most wii gamers aren't reading the gaming blogs and rushing out on launch day just to get a game... they're going to the shop when they want an game and looking at what's around.

Splinter Cell dev defends Ubisoft's 'always on' DRM

Apr 17th 2010 4:07AM (Joystiq)
So, do we have any sales figures on Assassin's Creed 2, or Silent Hunter yet? Can we tell if this amazing new DRM has led to more sales?

If it hasn't led to more sales then the entire rest of the debate is pointless.
