Geometry Wars XP debuts on Steam

Jun 20th 2007 9:26AM (Joystiq)
Geometry Wars was the only reason for me to even touch a 360, let alone buy one - and even then it wasn't enough. What the hell M$ was thinking making the PC version Vista-only to start with is beyond me.

Now they release it for XP over Steam. Oh joy. What's wrong with a normal download and install?

Elite Beat Agents sequel is on (oh yes)

As long as they don't make EBA2 as camp as EBA1 was, I'll be happy. I missed the whole Cromartie High charm of the Ouendan guys. The songs stunk in the first EBA an'all.

My Wishlist for songs:
(1) Sugar-Coated Iceberg - Lightning Seeds
(2) 7Twenty7 - Roxette
(3) We Didn't Start The Fire - Billy Joel
(4) Miami 2017 - Billy Joel (but the much better Richard Marx version)

Wii woes: some win, some lose, some sing blues

Wii woes: some win, some lose, some sing blues

Oh, the PAIN I had. I was meaning to pre-order, but the run-up clashed with an anime con I was attending in Scotland. I had plenty of bankroll for it, but wasn't sure what I'd be spending (normally a LOT at those things). Turns out my plastic barely broke a sweat, but I returned with major leg pain after helping to shift a custom-built DDR coin-op. Weighed an absolute sodding TON - and with no ramps to get it out of the hotel we had to DEAD-LIFT it out. I couldn't walk properly for days.

Day after release, I got round to GameStation Sunderland and post-preordered one - still not guaranteed for Christmas, but they said if I manage to find one elsewhere, they'd give me my £20 back.

Theen, however - the light shone. There was an ad in the paper shortly afterwards saying that Toys'R'Us were getting shipments in to all stores. That was IT. Half-past-5 that Saturday morning, I was a blur: 20-minute hike up to the A19, the X10 bus as far as Stockton-on-Tees, and a cab as far as T'R'U on Teesside Park. Landed there about 6:45am...

...whereupon there was a hefty queue there already - and some guy in a luminous jacket saying they'd all gone already. They were using a ticket scheme for all those in the queue, who had been there since 8pm the previous evening - WHILE I WAS STILL AT WORK!!! - and all they were getting in was 65 consoles anyway. SIXTY-FIVE. Who the HELL in that store thought that was going to be enough?! The queue for that would have maxed out by 8:30pm!! Add to that the fact it was still freaking early, so there was no public transport around - and it was FECKING FREEZING out an'all! My legs were killing me because of the daft amount of walking I had to do to get there, combined with the existing leg pain - I nearly cleaned the smug bastard clock of some 14-year-old charva arsehole who was taking the piss out of everyone who was too late.

As it transpires, I got the Phone Call I was praying for from Sunderland, and landed my Wii on the 22nd.

And OH. How Much Does It Rule...

More LocoRoco games, confirms Sony

@8: Being teh kiddy [sic] is shameful, is it?

Isn't that an accusation oft levelled at Nintendo... and how nuts are people going trying to get hold of a Wii?

(34 years old, loving LocoRoco, and a got Wii on pre-order BTW)

I'm sure I saw it in one of the earlier cheapex DDR clones that were floating around...

@Dallas: feeling that, mate. And I'm 34.

I've never gotten the whole Nu/Plastic Punk thing myself - I gave a toss about Ouendan's music, but not EBA's. It's bad enough that they murdered Queen, Chicago and EW&F - there's only Jumpin' Jack Flash at the end that's Any Good.

My choices for songs in a sequel would be:
Follow Me - Beat Crusaders
(a nod to its J-pop roots - these guys sing in English)
Sugar-Coated Iceberg - Lightning Seeds
7Twenty7 - Roxette
Ready To Go - Republica
Feel Good, Inc. - Gorillaz
Are Ya Ready For Some Football? - Hank Williams Jr
* Somebody Told Me - The Killers
* Do Ya Do Ya - Franz Ferdinand
* Disco 2000 - Pulp

* Might be problems with these, as they've been in other games

Bad at math? Use this MS Points converter

Shouldn't MS Points be, like, known as M$...?

"Wii-bashing is over" claims Nintendo UK boss

May 30th 2006 7:13PM (Joystiq)
From the three next gen machines, I'm looking at getting a Wii first and foremost (STOP IT!), but I'm afraid to say that I agree with those who say Nintendo'll be third in the next gen race. The retailers will ram their tongues firmly up Sony and Microsoft's asses once again, and the Wii will probably be lucky to get a pokey little corner at the back of GAME or GameStation the way the Gamecube was.

Marketing is all in this game. Just as Sega proved with the Saturn and Dreamcast that they can't plug for toffee in the West and the MegaDrive was a complete and total fluke, Nintendo are going to end up doing the same damn thing unless they pull their finger out.
