Winner of strongest fall lineup is ... PS2?

Sep 8th 2006 2:13PM (Joystiq)
I'll give you Okami. But the rest does nothing for me. Rule of Rose, Rogue Galaxy, and Bully won't live up to their hype. I've heard of God Hand in passing. Final Fantasy will sell, but I don't get excited for generic RPGs. Guitar Hero is great for those of us willing to spend $80 on a rhythm game or like that kind of music. It's a niche game. A good niche game, but a niche game nonetheless.

I see a lot of hype, but not a lot of games.

Captain Obvious: Camp Hyrule says Wii won't exceed $250

Aug 9th 2006 10:50PM (Joystiq)
"Listen, fans, we understand your excitement at every little bit of Nintendo info that squeezes out into the Internets. But, when you see something that's already been stated months before -- and a few times we might add -- it's pretty safe to say that we already knew the Wii wouldn't exceed $250."

So, Robert, you are angry at yourself for posting the $299 rumor?

"At the moment, Nintendo has kept quiet about the whole thing, so we'll all just have to keep a close eye on whether or not the company will go back on their sub-$250 word."

Those crazy Nintendo fanboys. I wonder why they would think this was shit people didn't know. What losers!

If I were a betting man, I'd say that a certain Joystiq blogger is going by an alias.

Zune zooms straight past gaming?

Jul 22nd 2006 11:39AM (Joystiq)
I'd love for someone to tell me where Microsoft said they were making a portable gaming system. People continuously throw that around like it is fact, and have been doing so for a number of years. Still, Microsoft developers and Microsoft IP continue to appear on Nintendo handhelds. You'd think, if Microsoft were to make a handheld gaming system, they would tell Rare to stop developing for the DS.

I'm not as smart as all these analysts I guess. I just can't see it.

Grading current-generation game platforms

Jun 21st 2006 9:08PM (Joystiq)
Here you go:

PS2: B
Xbox: C+ (very few quality exclusive games, those with a PC could play most of the best. XBOX live good, but what do people play on it other than Halo 2?)
GC: B- (Saved by some of the best games Nintendo ever made, no one bought this system for its image)
GBA: B (too much crap to give an A)
DS: A
PSP: C/C- (dont have ipod/ have ipod)

No one gets an A but the DS. The GC gets a bad rap by the casual hardcore, but Nintendo did some of their best work ever on that system. You may disagree, but a Nintendo console is always worth the price for Nintendo games. Namco gave me a reason to buy a PS2. No one gave me a reason to buy a XBOX.

The DS Lite is "smaller than a brick"

Jun 12th 2006 5:40PM (Joystiq)
I don't think 6 hours is right. The battery holds more charge than the one for the original DS, and I got more than that with the it. My Lite hasn't died on me yet, but I'll keep an eye on it.

7 more reasons for bogus games "journalism" [update 1]

May 30th 2006 1:34PM (Joystiq)
This is the same person who compared the negative press for the name "Wii" to the negative press Michael Jackson recieved when he was accused of molesting children.

I've said it once, and I will say it again. Mr. Cole, the kettle is indeed black. Stop pointing it out.

Link gets some lovin' from Out magazine

May 29th 2006 7:55PM (Joystiq)
"And even if it were a "choice" as many frame it, does this make it wrong?"

Of course not. I just wanted to make my argument as concise and forceful as I could. I find it harder to refute science than philosophy, so when I have the science card, I play it and stick to it.

Link gets some lovin' from Out magazine

May 29th 2006 6:32PM (Joystiq)
"on one hand, people say it is irrational to be homophobic...but on the other people say it is irrational to be homosexual."

Nice try. You can try to frame the truth as an opinion, but there is only one side to the truth.

A growing body of scientific evidence points to homosexuality developing in utero. It's not only rational, it's inevitable.

Your confusion on the subject does not make it false, irrational, or wrong.

Miyamoto: Sony, MS games "same old experiences with new graphics" [update 1]

May 22nd 2006 8:45PM (Joystiq)
"The thing I look for in games in superior storytelling. With video games developers are offered a unigue ability to tell stories on a grand scale that involve the viewer. Nintendo has never been a great story teller. With the exception of Zelda story, emotion, and character have always been secondary."

There are maybe 10 video games ever made that had stories that I might want to sit down and read if they had been made novels and not games, and most of them were not good games. Most people who go on and on about storylines in video games wouldn't know a good story if it bit them in the face.

All I look for is a game where the storyline doesn't get in the way. Far too many of these story-heavy games are glorified movies with hours of tedium between cutscenes. On a related note, I deeply regret my purchase of Dragon Quest 8.

"With all do respect from Nintendo. I would be more inclined to listen to Nintendo on the innovation front if the last 5 games that they released for the game-cube didn't involve Mario playing some type of sport."

Last 2 Nintendo games for the GC? Odama and Chibi-Robo. Two brand new titles.

"I was going to say before I read the end of the post...Mario is still jumping, Link is still chopping things with his sword, and Kirby still goes around sucking things in. When I see Nintendo publish a game that has as much depth as Richard Garriott's games did oh - ten YEARS ago, then I'll listen to Miyamoto's criticism."

So you won't be satisfied until Nintendo releases a Mario game where he doesn't jump? Thanks for adding to the conversation.

By the way, Ultima games are digital Ambien. ZZZZZ.

Sony can't sell PSPs in Europe! OMG WTF?! [update 3]

May 18th 2006 11:30PM (Joystiq)
I'm really glad you were able to stop this misconception about that PSP that absolutely no one had.
