Tumblr updates bring new bookmarklet, Radar discovery page, API and much more

Really, why did they have to name it Radar? Maybe I'm showing too much love for Radar.net (the cool cameraphone sharing site) but it's awfully coincidental. ;)

Pretty much the best Wii case mod ever

Wow, that is so cool!

Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 now available

Hey Hitesh,

Add a 'j' to that, i.e.

tar -xvfj granparadiso-alpha1.tar.bz2

That will run it through bunzip2 first, then untar it. Hope that helps!

LG FLATRON L1982U touts 3000:1 contrast ratio

I recall reading somewhere that Apple is using LG LCDs in their new displays (iMac, MacBook Pro, etc...), don't know if that holds any water though.

Windows Home Server Beta 2 open to the public

Andrew: I think you misunderstood Paul Thurott's review. Unless your Mom is Gina Trapani and your Dad is Jordan Running, your parents aren't going to have any interest (let alone skill) in setting up WHS (or any server, for that matter). It might be simple from an advanced user's perspective, but certainly not from an 'ordinary' end user perspective.

Even if their intent is to get the 'ordinary' folks to buy and use Windows Home Server, the reality (I believe) is that only Power Users are going to be genuinely interested in WHS. Odds are the 'ordinary' people who do buy a WHS machine will have been sold one by a salesperson at Circuit City or Best Buy, and will probably even procure their services to configure the box.

WinVibe: Free music player for Windows Mobile

This is a great little player, nice find Brad! It has my favorite useless feature: the ability to slow down or speed up the playback. The Shoutcast support is what really makes my day though.

Odds are people who know what Linux is will chuckle, and those who do not will forget about it within 5 minutes.

Ubuntu Studio announced for April release

I can definitely see your points, Khuffie and Jan. For most Linux users, selecting and installing the packages you want to run your system is trivial. But for non-technical folks, it's quite the opposite. Sure, things are a LOT easier with handy tools such as Yum and YaST2, but they still require some know-how. If a musician or artist on a tight budget can get their work done with an easy-to-install (maybe with the help of a friend) Linux distro with an easy to use desktop interface, then that has not only created a new Linux and open source user, but it has also empowered that person as well. It sure feels a whole lot better than plunking down $800 for a commercial version of an equivalent piece of software!

Detroit Auto Show: Live Reveal of the Chevy Volt EV

I love the idea, I just wish they would put it into an ordinary looking vehicle that costs less than $30k. All the flash and sizzle in the world means nothing unless it's affordable for people to buy or lease.

That said I'm still excited about this car!
