New 'No More Heroes' spots show off coconut, garbage collecting

Nov 10th 2007 12:13AM (Joystiq)
They're actual game play. The game has all sorts of odd jobs that you can do--at your discretion--to earn extra cash. And as for the "12? 8?" minutes remark, I imagine then that it's a good thing that you only have to do it for a few minutes, whenever you so feel like it.

Today's hottest video: New Battlefield teaser

Mar 3rd 2007 4:21PM (Joystiq)
Wow, that 360 logo at the end killed it for me. Don't get me wrong, I love my 360 and will typically buy games for it instead of PC, but not Battlefield. And I could care less about this single player focus they seem to be going for. I just want a next gen Battlefield that'll have new features like destructible environments, and whatever else they might have planned, but optimized for huge online multiplayer goodness.

Confirmed: Alien Hominid HD this Wednesday

I'm with #8. All this means to me is yet another week of waiting for Worms.

And no offense #12, but the way your post came off I totally suspected you to be a plant at first.

God of War II dev bets against the game, must lease Maserati Quattroporte if wrong

Feb 15th 2007 10:17PM (Joystiq)
Do you guys seriously think that just because a game does extremely well that all the people who worked on it are going to make bank? Doesn't work that way. This guy is just one of the many lower level designers on the game, he'll likely just get a nice bonus on top of his regular salary when this game does well, but in any case it's not going to be anything that even comes close to covering a $1700 monthly payment for a year.

Anyways if the bet is real the guy is an idiot for making a bet where the reward is no where near worth as much as the risk.

MEE launched, Marc Ecko getting (all) up (in the industry)

Feb 14th 2007 12:11AM (Joystiq)
Any mention of Mark Ecko and video games should elicit this quote from a Getting Up interview he did:

"Interviewer: Let’s discuss some of the reviews the game has gotten. They’ve been mixed, at best. How do you answer what critics are saying?

Ecko:I would say there are gamers that have a predisposition to have a bug up their ass for anything urban. The fact that there was a black character on the cover of this game, right away there was a dismissiveness that this was just another “GTA: San Andreas,” that’s number one. Number two, this is the end of a console cycle when there is a law of diminishing returns. The code is as polished as you can make it on a no-hard-drive console like the PS2. So, there are technical limitations that people just can’t understand. There are guys that have a predisposition to be slaves to the code, rather than be slaves to the branding, products or experience. At the end of the day, it’s going to be the consumer who decides and not whether the camera makes a difference. "

That's the attitude and industry savvy I like to see behind a new game company. BTW, this company is going to be a publisher not a developer, right? Publishers hardly know what's going on anyway.

How Sega can save Sonic the Hedgehog

Feb 13th 2007 4:10PM (Joystiq)
Sonic and the Secret Rings for Wii is set to fulfill all of the requests 1up was making, with the exception of the sparser releases which is yet to be seen. But the game doesn't seem to have any sidekicks in it at all aside from the girl who talks while you're playing, but definitely not any playable. The focus is certainly on speed, possibly moreso than even the original Sonic games, and meanwhile being on a set track basically makes it play more like a 2d game. And they didn't seem to bother with any sort of meaningful story, just putting you in some random themed environments and with some generic objectives to perform along the way.

So this should be interesting to see if satisfying their requests will be enough to make a new worthwhile Sonic game.

Wii Transfer for Mac OS turns your Wii into a media center, but not really

Jan 27th 2007 2:36PM (Joystiq)
@ oblivonbp

My problems with Orb were likely due to my router, but like I said I already use my 360 for streaming media so I didn't really bother to see if I could get it working. I just wanted to check out how the software worked, but since it didn't work right away I was over it. But then again, the nice about Orb versus streaming through the 360 is that it actually retains the organizations of your files, rather than just having every single one of your video files in one long list. Although I think I'd rather stick with the better quality on the 360.

@ Earl and h0mi

Do a search here on Joystiq for TVersity. It's a media streaming service for the 360 that will allow you to play any type of video file. And in terms of quality it comes down to the quality of the video file. If it was encoded by someone who knew what they were doing than it should look just fine playing through your 360. Although one thing about the TVersity software is that it's very processor intensive, so you'll need a reasonably good computer to stream videos without any hitches.

Wii Transfer for Mac OS turns your Wii into a media center, but not really

Jan 25th 2007 2:57PM (Joystiq)
There's another media streaming service, Orb, that provides Wii functionality.Although I could never get the thing to ever actually play a video or even an mp3 on my Wii (it did manage to show the album artwork though). But then again, I didn't really try for too long since I have a 360.

And there's a whole lotta stupid coming from both sides in these comments that don't really even need to be addressed. Except for Farseer pointing out Truth's lapse of thought, that was great :).

Microsoft says "over half" of 360 buyers didn't own Xbox 1

Jan 18th 2007 5:32PM (Joystiq)
I have a 360 but never had the original Xbox, as can be said about two of my friends who recently got 360s.

Capcom Rumor Round-Up: SFII on PS3, Dead Rising 2 on 360

Jan 16th 2007 2:27PM (Joystiq)
Dead Rising is a fairly westernized game, it likely wouldn't sell too well in Japan. And if Microsoft is sending money Capcom's way to keep the game exclusive to 360, then I'm sure that cash would make up for whatever profit they'd pull on Japanese PS3 version sales.
