Joystiq Asks: What features should MS spring for the Fall Update?

Oct 30th 2007 8:07PM (Joystiq)
1. Show gamerscore on friends list

2. Let me change how to sort friends list.

3. More than 5 downloads in queue. When Queue is full, and you try to download 6th, it will fail, but mark the item as downloaded, so you can't remember if you've downloaded it.

4. Purchase an entire tv series (season) at once w/ price break.

5. When viewing photos, there's not enough room to show the full folder name, so I usually can't tell what each folder is... get rid of the big icons and just give me a list view.

6. Playing music... give me an option to browse by Album Artist... not just Artist.. or browse by folder.

7. Navigating the blades is easy with a universal remote, but when you get into a sub-menu, you need to navigate with (A) and (B) buttons, which gets annoying. Make Dashboard even more remote happy. If I'm watching a movie, listening to music, I'd rather just use my Harmony remote instead of the controller.

8. More sound output options than just Dolby Digital. How about TrueHD?

9. Related.. pass through bitstream for HD-DVD adapter.

10. Better HDMI handshaking.. if your 360 boots before your stereo is ready to hand-shake, it falls back to Pro-Logic instead of DD. You have to turn off then back on the 360 to get DD. Most devices like my TiVo will re-try to HDMI handshake when changing menus.

11. Remove old credit cards from my account. Every time I buy MS points, it defaults to a credit card I know longer have.

12. DiVX

13. On screen warning for low-battery on controller. Sometimes I don't notice the flashing lights.

BioShock's helping hand to Unreal Engine 3's image

Aug 29th 2007 6:35PM (Joystiq)
Huh? Is someone trying to start more controversies again?

A. The Bruha over UE3 was the non/late-delivery of the PS3 version. Bioshock isn't on the PS3!!

B. Doesn't Bioshock use a heavily modified UE2 engine, not UE3??

Class action lawsuit could be building against Microsoft for 360 fall update woes

Dec 7th 2006 3:39PM (Joystiq)
Lot's of uninformed comments on here.

A. Yes, I was affected by the Fall Update as well. I didn't want a refurbished system, so I just bought a new core system and swapped my hard-drive.

B. Some games still work, some crash after 5 to 10 minutes of game play after the fall update, so yes, checking my (or anyone else's) gamertag would show that I'm still playing games, but that doesn't mean I'm lying about the system being broken. The update wasn't an instant bricking of the console. They just lock-up and hang after xx minutes of play (usually 10 minutes.) A lot of people (myself included) aren't getting red rings of lights. Just constant lock-ups.

C. Microsoft isn't fixing this for free even though their update bricked people's systems. So don't just post on here that you can call MS and get a free replacement. It's $139 for the repair.

D. Microsoft claimed "they fixed the problem" a few days later. What most of you don't realize, this fix is ONLY for those who hadn't done the update yet. Those who did the update are still stuck with broken machines. Also, they still haven't admitted that the update broke any systems, only that they found a problem that kept some systems from updating.

E. Hopefully the lawsuit isn't out to make money, but to force MS to admit to the problem and pay for free repairs. It really sucks to apply an update and your machine stops working then be told you have to pay $139 because you're out of warranty. I don't think the warranty applies if their update broke the machines.

my 2 cents
