Video: Lamborghini Gallardo Twin-turbo crashes at Texas Mile

Oct 26th 2010 6:04PM (Autoblog)
You know that this is a standing MILE event, and that he was at the END of the mile, right?
And do some actual research before you make these slanderous assumptions, the Texas Mile has a rescue team at the end of the track in case of these situations.

Because, regardless of what your ASSUMPTIONS lead you to believe, the Texas Mile has a notoriously short shut down area.

And I'm not even going to mention the possibility of brake failure over 200MPH...

You could completely replace the body if you wanted to and this still would've happened. The cause was the parachuting increasing lift in the rear and causing a loss of traction.

These cars have proven to be perfectly stable at these speeds year after year, regardless of what armchair QBs like to assume. If they weren't, then we would've seen a major wreck like this a LONG(!!!) time ago.

This is a different game than Bonneville. This is an acceleration competition(like drag racing), not a top speed competition. Cars that run Bonneville top out, while these cars are still accelerating at the end of the track. It's basically a drag race, except the track is 4 times as long and the winner is the one with the highest trap speed instead of the lowest ET.

@Bobby - The front lost traction? It doesn't work that way, parachutes increase rear lift, not rear downforce. The top half of the parachute scoops in clean air and the bottom half is partially covered by the silhouette of the car, and thus the parachute rises(increasing lift) since there is more drag at the top than the bottom. If there is too much lift, then the rear tires will obviously lose traction, and the rear of the car will swing one way or the other. This is a well known potential side effect of a parachute, especially if installed incorrectly(not the case here). You might think that the huge amount of drag from the parachute would keep the rear of the car in line even after the loss of traction, but the weight of the car moving side to side can overcome the amount of drag from the chute(as it did in this case).

No Supra has hit 250MPH in any standing mile event, they are having reliability problems. This very Gallardo Superleggera and driver holds the Texas Mile record, set last year at 251MPH. As far as I know, no one broke 250MPH this year, and this car was the only one to hit 250 last year.

That write up of the Gallardo doesn't mention a roll cage because that's not even the same car. C'mon dude, it doesn't even look the same, it's not even a Superleggera.

The car in the vid is owned(and driven) by Richard Holt(who also drag races a 6 second Kawasaki), it's a Gallardo Superleggera built by Underground Racing. Full roll cage, six point harness, fire suppression system. It's the current record holder at the Texas Mile with a 251MPH pass last year. It put down ~1950HP on UG's chassis dyno right before the Texas Mile.

If you morons can't tell that the car has some damage, then I don't know how to help you. You can easily tell by just watching Joe drive and watching how the car is acting in the corners. If you had actually seen the race(shame on you if you didn't and still call your self a racing fan, pretty much the best racing out there!!!) then you would know this also. But whatever, not matter what I say here it won't change the fact that your egos won't ever be behind the wheel of one of these cars(good thing too!).

i'm sure KB was involved to some extent. block is basically the brainchild of DC shoes, and DC is one of JR's major sponsors, obviously along with monster and ford.
