New Metroid Prime 3 screenshots

May 22nd 2007 12:58PM (Joystiq)
First thing, Nintendo tends to use raw screenshots. A lot of publicity images for games are "doctored" up quite a bit. The official press images of Kingdom Hearts II, for example, had a level of aliasing to them that would make the 360 choke. Obviously the game doesn't look that good on a PS2. Second, Joystiq resizes press images they resize to fit their stupid site design and don't offer links to the original sized images (they resize all 720p shots they get to LESS than 480p size). I wouldn't put it past them to shrink the images using no resize filter to purposefully make them look worse.

Microsoft booting modders off Xbox Live

Oh, boo hoo. Wah, wah, wah. This company won't allow me to steal their products, I will ban them and then whine about it on online message boards.. only misspelled and grammatically mutilated. I swear, the internet children get worse and worse every.. single.. day.

Puzzle Fighter to be priced the same for Xbox Live, PSN

Ugh. I wish companies would stop stretching and blurring and filtering the hell out of old game's graphics and claiming them as HD.

Scratch teaches game programming, commenting etiquette

Seriously, does any know a good "all systems" news site whose posts don't regularly read like those from a pre-teen Counter-Strike or Halo message board? It must be torture that Joystiq is the only gaming site that I can access while at the office.. torture.

I don't know why I read this stupid site.

PS1/PS2 graphics look like crap on PS3

Dec 13th 2006 1:54PM (Joystiq)
99% of PS2 games run in 480i, so yeah, the problem would affect ALMOST every game if the issue is indeed isolated to 480i. Most PS1 games run at 240p.

Dragon Quest IX announced as DS exclusive

@39, yes I've clocked over 200 hours into Dragon Quest VIII. I've also played EACH AND EVERY game in the series as they were released, even ones that remained exclusive to Japan. Most of them multiple times. I've got so many Dragon Quest toys and books and comics.. I'm a total DQ nut and I think this is the best news I've heard all month.

You are basing your claims that there is no animation or life in the game based on ONE STILL, NON-MOVING SCREENSHOT. That is amazing. That is utterly and incorrigibly amazing. That is the same level of sheer, brilliant moronity that the internet Lloyds displayed when the first screenshots of The Wind Waker were released. Seriously, please stop and think about what you've said: you have come to a complete and concrete conclusion that the game is going to suck and lose all its sense of artistry based on a single, still image. Amazing.

Ah, the internet.. the only place where you can see the prediction of a game's success or failure by little children simply based on an announcement.

@14 Realism, life-like environments?! In a Dragon Quest game? You are nuts, it's always been a cartoon styled game. If you want "realism" you should peep out Dawson's Creek Fantasy XIII or whatever it's called now with its teen angst. Dragon Quest has always looked like this.
