Sony demos PS Vita 'Face Control,' we get super creeped out forever

Jul 1st 2011 4:44PM (Joystiq)
@JCat

That's true. Apple has pioneered mobile gaming only because they redefined the "casual" gamer. Try giving your gf "Angry Birds". Its easy to play and easy to put down. Most of the tech demos of PS Vita "mirrors" PS3. If I could have a PS3 game on-the-go....that's unique. PS Vita also show chases a lot of Sony "future" tech such as the OLED display. I've been in the consumer electronics business for 18 years, attended E3, CES, Tokyo Game Show and other events. Give it time. For handheld gaming to be successful you have 18 months after release to make it or break it.

I would not be surprised if you attempted to purchase one in a year or two. Sony is putting all the chips to bring the "new" hardcore casual gamer into PS3. Its reverse migration.

@Lucky48

I am a marketing analyst for investors. Truly you cannot keep changing a system format during a product's life cycle. PSP had potential however the average consumer got frustrated on what to buy. If PS Vita wants to WIN it has to win over the investors with creating a new customer base while supporting a existing audience. PS Vita is an extension of PS3 to help its "own" life cycle like kinect is for Xbox. Trust me I love PSP, great games and great support from 3rd parties. The consumer market has changed a lot and is becoming extremely challenging. Developers are getting restless on creating "cookie cut" software. If they can use every features from PS Vita, we have a winner for sure. Thanks for your response BTW.

I am so happy Sony is going to have their 1st SUCCESSFUL handheld device. This looks like it will beat the DS series, itouch series and other handheld devices. All they need to do is keep focusing on innovated software development and 3rd party support. Great job!

Crysis 2 upgrades to maximum graphics on the PC, get the patch here

Jun 28th 2011 4:24AM (Joystiq)
I just installed these patches and all I can say is WOW!!!

I am running a i7 3.5Ghz, 6GB DDR3 and a Nvidia GTX 570. My computer is on its knees. For all the people who cry about PC gaming, I am very happy to see Crytek standing true to their word. Once again they show a landmark in "future" graphical standards. PC gaming is about the "future". Consoles are only about profit and mass distribution. If you read deeper into this issue, Crytek released the "Console" version first to gather revenue to recover development cost. PC was only 14% of their total sales. After that, they returned to the PC code and added the Upgraded Graphics Mode and DirectX 11. Crytek is a designer of "Development Engines", just like EPIC. Remember the UNREAL ENGINE, its used in every game today. Every time a new software engine is introduced its goal is the show the development committee the advantages of their software not make SUPER GAME. That's for other developers to create.

Yes, the upgrade is very impressive. Pictures do no give this upgrade justice. You have to look it running in "real time". Not some Youtube video or some screen shot. Trust me everyone....its impressive. I have never heard my video card fan run so loud. This game is sucking all the resources and power out of my PC. LOL. Good job Crytek. Lets see more games that support DirectX 11.

Remember, better games today means EVEN better games tomorrow. PC games need to lead the way. Battlefield 3 is another great example. DICE admitted PC will get all the bells and whistles, but will (FOR PROFIT) make it for consoles too. This is all food for thought to give the HARDWARE developers for XBOX version 3 and PS4 more to chew on.

Saints Row: The Third dev walkthrough introduces faces to the pavement

Jun 24th 2011 12:28PM (Joystiq)
Who thought of that purple dildo in the game? LOL. This games is definitely a slapstick GTA. I am happy the developers are having fun with this one. The fighting moves are so over the top and fluid. Online battles will be a joy to watch. If any of the developers reading this....(HINT) put a Saints Row 3 Channel inside the game so anyone can watch this comical chaos unfold.

Skarlet enters Mortal Kombat on June 21; Kenshi, Rain, one other coming later

I have to admit. A $60 retail game becomes a $100 total investment. DLC is the future of gaming but a constant drain on the wallet. I did a cost analyst on my total expenses on gaming and the average is $200-$350 a year. This amount alone goes to DLC and Online subscriptions. I have nothing physical to show for it. LOL.

Its DIGITAL CRACK! LOL. Give me more. more content.!!!

I am glad the Battlefield 3 Team recognizes that PC is the LEADING PLATFORM for the newest technology. Console ports to PC just plainly stink!
