PSP Go review

Sep 28th 2009 10:02AM (Engadget)
As a current PSP owner I find the lack of a UMD conversion program makes it so that there is no way I would consider a go. I am sure it will make for a better experience when on the road, but I will just stick with my current PSP and 16 gig MG for now. I don't feel like I am missing out on anything at all.

Good luck to the new users.

@cannon fodder

Anti-Consumer? You are a special brand of silly aren't you. One that I see growing and somehow infecting others with thier insane ramblings.

The go doesn't replace the 3000. It is sold alongside the 3000. Since when is "choice" anti-consumer. If you feel that you want to purchase a handheld and that used games and lending your games to friends is going to be a large portion of your experience..... get a 3000.... or a DS lite. The Go's release does not force your hand in any way.

And as for your comments about the MG/UMD, as a proprietary means of data transfer....... WHO CARES?!?! You don't like the fact that the PSP doesn't accept your memory format of choice......... DON'T BUY IT. It is really that simple. Sony made their products support their products. The nerve of a company doing such a thing.

I know its cool to hate on sony now a days but this anti consumer stuff is just plain idiotic. Your sense of entitlement doesn't change the way a company chooses to make profit and it certainly doesn't speak for everyone. I find that thier is nothing anti consumer about sony products because as a consumer.... I still have choice. If I don't like the hardware, than I can chose not to purchase it. Your complaints are as valid as someone getting angry at toyota because they don't offer a camry with 6 wheels. (toyota is killing choice here!!!)

Xbox 360 officially the only console to stream Netflix -- sorry, PS3 and Wii

Aug 11th 2009 4:43PM (Engadget)
@Yamagushi

The PSP slim did help sales. It even outsold DS lite in many regions before the DSi came out.

And sony throwing money at movies studios is nothing but idiotic speak from those blindly trying to place a target. The only movie studios who stayed true to Blu ray exclusivity were the studios that were on the Blu Ray Disc Association Board. Think about that for a second.

Seriously, why do so many people remain people choose to be ignorant. It wasn't true then and it isn't true now.

@dead-prince

If you don't like any games on the PS3 at all then I question your taste. Even as such... why bother getting one if the exclusives weren't your bag?

Xbox 360 officially the only console to stream Netflix -- sorry, PS3 and Wii

@ipoop

MS didn't have to throw money at netflix. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings joined the Microsoft board of directors in 2007. So MS can just hand him a check. lol.

PlayStation 3 overtakes Wii in Japan, now about twice in a blue moon

November 6, 2008

(first 23 months)

3rd party

5.2 - Xbox 360
4.4 - PlayStation 3
3.1 - Wii

Overall

6.6 - Xbox 360
5.5 - Wii
5.3 - PlayStation 3

The only reason the 360 is that much higher is because of the extra year on the market. When looking at the studies we are talking about the Wii and the the PS3 at 5 and then the 360 at 6. The extra year without competition helped it to get two more numbers but obviously any system with a year head start would be higher.

And I love the tone of the article

Media create

February
PS3: 87,000
Wii: 76,000

March
PS3: 116,000
Wii: 70,000

the PS3 outsells the wii for two months in a row, yet somehow the article seems as if this is some sort of small victory.

If you are paying attention though, it isn't the PS3 that is selling more (it is on par with last years performance) it is that the Wii is selling much less.

But however you want to spin it engadget....... have fun.

Netflix profit up 45% in Q4, nears 10 million total subscribers

Jan 28th 2009 10:49AM (Engadget)
7,479,000 customers by the end of 2007,By the end of 2008 they have 9,390,000 total subscribers, yet they only managed to gain 1,911,000 customers in a year after they opened their market to a preinstalled hardware base of 28 million, and that is a "potential sign of the coming apocalypse for physical media"? When the cheapest plan for unlimited streaming streaming available is near $100 a year($9 a month) it a surprise they gain profits after thier growth?

Am I the only one here that thinks this "Digital Download is the future" movement nothing but hot air and broken logic?

Xbox 360 + PS3 case + many Dremel bits = PS360

@From My Cube

You do know a LARGE amount of those games are not out yet?

And the problem with posting info trying to counter a comment about great exclusive you might want to take out..... ohhh, I don't know, more than 60% of that list.

Things like DDR, bulletwitch, tenchu z, Yaris (video game) (seriously... its a video game), zegapain, bomberman zero, The Idolmaster...

Man, that list is full of mediocre titles and some downright HORRIBLE things that shouldn't even be called video games. You have destroyed your point whithe your overzealous response. I wonder if I can trick people into playing Coffeetime Crosswords adn shrek n' roll for more than an hour.

Sony to shed 16,000 jobs, increase prices in bid to bolster profitability (Updated)

Lackluster sales?

Delusional much?

And ints not even a question that the PS3 was outselling the 360 in the rest of the world. It took a pricecut to get the 360 numbers up and that was most likely a reaction to the fact that not only was the PS3 outselling the 360 in the rest of the world, for the first 7 months of this year the ps3 was also selling at a faster rate than the 360. They were losing ground so they reacted.

Only the most ardent of fanboys can look at the numbers for this year and pretend that the PS3 wasn't stepping on the 360.

Xbox 360 outsells the original Xbox, Microsoft heads down to the trophy shop

Nov 26th 2008 8:53AM (Engadget)
FTFA:"Microsoft has just announced that sales of the Xbox 360 have outraced total sales of the original Xbox, a mere two days after the 360's third birthday on November 22." and then "To put this in perspective, a total of 25 million original Xboxes were sold during its lifecycle of November 2001 - May, 2005 (roughly three and a half years)."

that means
3 and a half years for the xbox to reach 25 million
3 years for the 360 to reach 25 million.

I don't understand the celebration. This is like them winning back their original base. Not only that
(halo 2 sold 8 million to an install base of 24 million)
(halo 3 sold 8 million to an install base of 17 million)

You woulda have thought that this would have happened sooner.

Chinese pirates offering cheap AVCHD Blu-ray rips on disguised DVD-Rs

What? Dude, your NOT SUPPOSED to sit close to such a large HDTV. Thats probably why you can't tell the difference. I have a 55 inch Samsung DLP. I sit 14 or more feet away. I can easily tell the difference between 720 and 1080.

New Xbox Experience load times compared: DVD versus HDD

Vanillacide, while you are right about the 2006 delay you are wrong about the blu ray. Even the earliest released specs had Blu ray apart of the console, they never planned to ship with regular dvd.
