What I really want from multiplayer patches. Less and less games that require online gameplay for more than one player....

Peter Moore: Sony is 'failing' in Japan

Jul 17th 2007 9:23AM (Joystiq)
You know what's truly and tragically pathetic about this stance? For the past THREE years, we've been hearing about how Xbox 360 is positioned to "breakthrough" the Japanese marketplace. They've spent millions... MILLIONS advertising the console alone. They've both recruited and funded japanese developers for Japanese exclusives. At the beginning of this war, we heard about how Peter Moore expected 360 to take off in Japan. And this entire time, they were talking about how they were optimistic, snagged killer exclusives, that have thus far flopped hardcore. Then Microsoft took the position of "well, consider how well your game will sell OUTSIDE of Japan... think GLOBALLY" now that Japan is fucking lost.

And now Peter Moore's position is they expected the 360 to fail in Japan? How convenient.

Meanwhile, PS3's weakest region is Japan... and yet Disgaea 3 has just been announced as a PS3 exclusive. Sony's performance hasn't been bouncing away the Japanese developers in the slightest. Sony keeps talking about a 10 year plan and it's true, they won't let people in on it. But so far, I've seen PS3 do much better than any previous similarly priced console. Hell, it's keep pace with 360 and in some regions, surpassing it.

So while it's all nice that Peter Moore is laughing it upp and yucking it up at Sony, let's see what he has to say as even more of his estimations fail to be reached. True, Sony isn't winning, not by a long shot. But until the 360 starts actually outpacing the Xbox, I don't see how he's in a position to point a finger.

Behind Sony's Echochrome is the OLE Coordinate System

The game looks great but it has three primary challenges before it.

1. Can the game maintain interest beyond the initial "this is awesome" phase?

2. Can the game offer variety?

3. Can this game avoid the horrid trap of creating puzzles SOOOOO complex, it ultimately drives people away from the product?

I mean, the last board they showed during the presentation, it was interesting to watch the path but I couldn't tell where the ultimate goal was until they walked over it. It looks fun and unique but some clarification is needed.

Joystiq impressions: Uncharted (PS3)

Allow me to respond.

GTAIV, gotta play it first. To date, I've yet to complete a GTA game. Beat Saint's Row though.

Killzone 2 isn't this fall.

Bioshock? Maybe... after hype has died down and real opinions come through.

Lost Odyssey. When it comes to the Microsoft Retail Training program (haven't worked retail for years, but who can say no to a $9 Gears Of War?), I'll snag it right along with Blue Dragon.

PGR4.. racing... pass

UT3, buying both PS3 and PC versions

Haze, based upon available income, possibly this too

Metroid Prime 3, if they can cut the Artifact horseshit, I'm on board. If not, I'll buy it when it's $10.

Guitar Hero III, art style just pisses me off. Judy Nails went from being punk rock to Courtney Love, anerexia crack whore and boss battles... hopefully nuff said.

Virtua Fighter 5 on 360, got it on PS3. So I'll wait for the 360 fanboys to completely ignore it and snag a copy on the cheap.

Folklore, on the fence about this one

COD4... PASS!

Bomberman, got the points ready and waiting

FF remakes, have the only one I want

Two Worlds, hated Oblivion... why would I buy it's unloved offspring?

Banjo.. 2008

Naruto, I'll buy on the cheap

Madden.... he heheh hehehe hehehhehhehehehe *cue Beautrix LeStrange laugh* Pass.

Madden really wants you to Ring in '08

Joystiq impressions: Ratchet & Clank Future (PS3)

Jul 16th 2007 2:38PM (Joystiq)
If THE Sony fanboy Andrew Yoon could write one article in the past twelve days that didn't sound like a snobbish record store clerk who's become jaded against all music except the hardest of the hardcore obscure bands, then I might believe there is a problem. But he played the first level. Anyone playing any Ratchet & Clank can tell you, that's like judging Mario games on his fashion sense.
