Joystiq impressions: Ratchet & Clank Future (PS3)

Jul 16th 2007 2:34PM (Joystiq)
No problem, so long as I get it close to the September launch of the Daxter pack, I'm good. Catch me on AIM (sheppyboy2000) and I'll give you my email. Not giving out my email here, though. Already had a couple handitards try and phish my password out of me for AIM ever since I posted my username here. Can only imagine the havok that could happen from posting my email.

Joystiq impressions: Metroid Prime 3 (Wii)

Well then... perhaps we should agree to disagree. I felt the enemy animations on the DS Castlevanias to be fairly generic and overly stiff compared to the lead but that's just me.

Hilarious, seriously. Especially since soooo much of video gaming owes it's roots to Dungeons & Dragons. And yes, that includes outside of RPGs.

But hey, you're cool now. You've bashed D&D. Even made a LARPing joke (heavily raped from Reno 911 where it was actually funny... which was raped from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, where it was funny there as well) despite the fact that most LARPers nowadays are into Vampire. But hey, it's cool. You tried. No points taken off, just do me a favor.

Never fucking breed.

Actually... no, I don't remember that.

Will the old batteries fit? That's the question.

And Christopher Grant, this will appeal to me. I have several games I love (Legend of Heroes, Valkerye Profile, etc) than I cannot play PSP hours upon hours. Or any handheld, really. But if I could hook em up to a TV...

Also, I can't be the only person amused that PSP now sports the same amount of accessable ram as the Wii.

And these are horrible examples of better animation as well. Well, okay... Ultimate Jump Superstars not so much (I tend to give it more credit than usual just because of the massive roster).

They are not similar at all.... well, the enemies have the same cycles but at least the hero gets more animation so that's a good thing, right?

Joystiq impressions: Metroid Prime 3 (Wii)

There is a definate difference between a level of exploring and blatant bullshit tactics to extend gameplay. Take, for example, Ghouls & Ghosts. Let's say you play hardcore, even manage to make it to the end. All the sudden, bammo, don't have an item, so you CAN'T enter the castle, so you have to do it all over again. Essentially, you have to play 90% of the game twice to access the last 10%.

Prime featured a large amount of exploration and retracing your steps, going back through previous areas to get further due to abilities you didn't have before. I had no problem with this. But then you finally get access to the opening to the final zone and BAMMO! You have to retrace the entire game due to vague clues to retrieve artifacts that were impossible to obtain previously. In other words, you have to replay the first 90% of the game to access the final 10%.

Now imagine if Corruption followed that theme. Each world a trouble within itself but still you kept switching between worlds, getting deeper and deeper and between all this switching, finally come across the last zones of any particular planet. Final planet reveals itself but you needs keys or codes or artifacts, or some other form of sacred foo before you can access it. Suddenly you get vague clues as to their location and you find yourself having to dredge through all of those planets AGAIN to find 2-3 items each. This is ONLY if they follow the series tradition on that. Personally, I feel once the final zone finally reveals itself, you should be able to access it. That's the way it was in the original Metroid. After all, kill Kraid and Ridley and you're in. There was no series of doors that gave you clues like "beneath the place where the horned beast fell, you'll find the phazon heart." In fact, none of the 2D Metroids had that.
