The Game Archaeologist moves into Lucasfilm's Habitat: Part 2

Jan 18th 2012 6:06AM (Massively)
I thought those graphics looked all 2009, Unreal Engine 3 no doubt ... i had never heard of it, although playing via dial-up in Australia via mid eighties telecom monopoly overseas phone charges would have been so expensive, hundreds of dollars per hour.

A good read and interesting to see that many of the player responses to in-game freedoms are what makes some of these games.

This new Darkness 2 trailer is impressively gross

Oct 31st 2011 9:48AM (Joystiq)
I'm guessing the developers have decided they can live without any sales in Australia, unless the new classifications come in, there's no way this is welcome here.

Judging any game based on clips of execution animations would seem to be somewhat premature, i liked the first one, and will just see how this pans out.

Kinect could come to the PC via third-party driver; Microsoft doesn't like it

Nov 9th 2010 2:28PM (Big Download)
Besides the various legal threats, this would seem to be of limited use, at least intially as the Kinect seems to have a very clear seperation of hardware and software in how it works. As all the useful stuff is done on the 360 side in processing the raw data streams from the camera's and microphones. So the driver is one thing, but the far greater task would be in software that can actually do something useful with that data, not that i doubt clever programmers will shy away from the challange. One last thing is the nature of kinect, outside of the living room space it was designed to operate in, it may be on no use connected to your desktop pc, unless you want to sit 8 feet back! and it lack of fidelity and focus on full body tracking means it unlikely adapting it for PC use would be any better than traditional input methods.
I thought i recalled when it was initially announced that microsoft even stated it would work with windows pc as well, which as obviously changed. Still as long as any code does not use microsoft code or dev libraries, i can't see any problem, unless simply plugging it into a non 360 machine violates the EULA, but hey what's a day when you don't violate at least one of those. Ultimately the existing wiimote and i'm assuming upcoming move hacks seem more useful and practical.

Gran Turismo 5 delayed, still coming 'this holiday season'

Oct 14th 2010 12:38AM (Joystiq)
I heard the delay is so they can add zombies ...

Rage developer raises doubts on 3D gaming's future

Oct 10th 2010 5:54PM (Big Download)
Except this is no longer the case, as they (ID) have said they will not be licensing their tech for use outside of their own and now parent companies titles, so their games need to stand as good games, and not just ads for their game engines.

Man Texts Suicide Note to Wife Before Leaping Off Cliff

Oct 22nd 2009 3:03PM (Switched)
I don't think anyone claimed the photo was the actual cliffs, or the actual photo of the cliffs the deceased sent, just some cliffs to illustrate the ... well cliffs angle. idiot. Still thanks for being boring, pointless and rude, 3 for 3.

McCartney's replica Rock Band bass looks awesome, backwards

May 12th 2009 1:07PM (Joystiq)
Bass guitars don't tend to have wammy bars (ugh) anyway so where it is, is neither here nor there, but it looks alot better than i thought it would, still would have liked to see George's Rickenbacker 360, or an Epiphone Casino, but still far better looking than most game guitars.

Almost thinking of getting this ... as i like the idea, but have always hated most (nearly all) of the music that these games feature, tried Guitar Hero 1 and just felt dirty when a Red Hot Chilli Peppers or whoever song would be next, but i hate to even guess what this will cost in Australia, 600 dollars for the lot maybe.

Well-loved gaming consoles exposed in shocking x-ray portfolio

May 2nd 2009 1:20PM (Engadget)
Why? What did you think would be inside a nunchuck ... magic bee's, diamonds, rare stamps, nope ... controller bits and a cable out of the molded plastic shell that makes it comfortable to hold. It came to Nintendo in a dream.

PS3 1.60: Background downloading works while gaming

Mar 22nd 2007 10:28AM (Joystiq)
Given 'Home' isn't actually out yet, doesn't it seem a little premature to proclaim it better than something that is proven to work and provide features most gamers seem to like and value.

Nintendo says Sony has a "Mii-too" approach

Mar 10th 2007 2:58PM (Joystiq Playstation)
So on the basis of a sarcastic press comment, you have decided to not buy a console, and i assume any other nintendo products for the rest of your life. Thats a pretty serious reaction to f**k all. Still if it wasn't for zealots and morons where would the world be ... lets wait and see.

And if it took sony 2 years to create a GTA style lobby thing, then they should really consider expanding the team working on their systems software beyond the 2 people obviously currently doing it.
