Joyswag: Xbox 360 Holiday Games Bundle

Dec 18th 2009 11:38AM (Joystiq)
I say nice. Made more money, then spent it on games that deserved my money before, but had to be rented cause of no money.

I say the games industry would see that as nice, wouldn't you? But that means I back to poor again because of expensive games. Boo.

More people browse the net on PS3 than Wii

Jan 2nd 2009 9:33PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I use the Wii browser quite a lot. Only because of convenience. While playing World of Goo, I got stuck and really couldn't figure out what to do (I know, I'm a monster). So I hopped over to the browser and fired up Gamefaqs, got my answer, and went back to playing. Easy as pie and quick. I don't leave my PC on 24/7, so it's not worth the hassle to turn it on for stuff like that.

Plus I Youtube it after gaming sessions. Like listining to the Mega Man 9 Medley while getting ready for work etc.

Not to mention I check the Fanboy/Joystiq/Kotaku sites when I finish gaming sincethe Wii is already on.

Report: Some Guitar Hero World Tour peripherals not functioning properly

Yellow cymbal does not work. AWESOME!!!!

What a great first day. Not to mention mysterious failings of songs at some random times when there weren't any notes and people were playing fine.

Completed 98% of Beat It to have it just fail you for no reason. No one knew what was going on.

Totally the new EA.

DS Daily: Rhythmblem

I've been playing Rhythm Tengoku Gold for a little bit now and am really starting to see why it's so great. Those videos shown off early didn't make much sense, but I had to try it out.

Now that I actually passed the first "Remix" it is abundantly clear this game is pure genius. An American version has the potential to be HUGE! As long as they don't go cheap like with Elite Beat Agents (Avril Levigne with Sk8ter boi? Really?). Keep it fresh and unique.

The fact that without any English in the game didn't deter me even when I was slightly confused as what to do, really proves the mechanics are all there. All about the music and rhythm. When you find yourself bobbing your head while playing, the designer have achieved their goals.

Cybernetic. If there is only one thing to learn from things like William Gibson's Neuromancer or Shadowrun or The Matrix, is that cybernetics are freakin awesome!

Welcome to 2000: DVD video playback enabled via homebrew!

Aug 13th 2008 4:59PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
How can people still not get this? It's a simple licensing issue. Just because a homebrewer added it for free does not make it legal. You have to pay a royalty or license fee to enable MPEG playback (what DVD video does), and the cost to Nintendo would not be worth it because who even frickin cares about DVD playback on the Wii?

Even if the license was a mere $10 (and they usually charge per device), that would already hit Nintendo's bottom line for a sweet $200 million (just thinking about the 20 million consoles sold so far). Is that worth it so a handful (literally) of people can watch movies on the system?

Look at Microsoft getting hit and losing over a billion $$ lawsuit with Alcatel Lucent over MP3 playback and encoding. they had even paid the licensing fees to the company who held the rights to MP3 at the time but because of company buyouts and a bad patent system, they still had to pay up. Ninty knows what's best for the bottom line, and useless features that cost them millions aren't worth it.

Gaming to Go: Bomberman Land Touch! 2

Jul 31st 2008 8:17PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I liked the first one more, story and game-wise. Even most of the games are practically the exact same, number 2 just seemed to go on forever. It also get very difficult after a while (when you have to earn the tokens on a second play of a booth, the high scores got ridiculous). You don't really have to get the tokens and high scores, but if you're a completest type person, you know.

But yeah, definitely great games because they are pretty simple at heart. Plus the old school Bomberman multiplayer was awesome.
