Apple working on major revamp of MobileMe, could be free

Feb 14th 2011 11:57AM (TUAW.com)
I don't know about this cloud stuff, but Mobile Me as it is needs to go free in order to compete with Android and Google sync. I can wirelessly get new apps and updates, but not my calendar and contacts without paying $100 a year? That's completely nuts.

MacBook Pro updates may hit March 1

Sorry, but that's not true. They may not have events for internal updates, but anytime there is even the slightest visual update they do have an event. There was even an event for when the iMac went 16:9.

Two weeks from launch date and no invites to an event? You better hope it's delivered tomorrow or either forget either a redesign or that early a launch. Apple isn't going to put out a new looking product without an event.

Pressure-sensitive drawing on the iPad

Jul 2nd 2010 2:03PM (TUAW.com)
This looks great and would make me rethink the iPad. But!!! Take a look at the lag. There was about a half a second between drawing and lines coming up. That's totally not acceptable. They're going to need to polish this before it becomes a reality.

@Vertigo, if all those people worked at the Golden Gate Bridge then, yes it would be likely that the working conditions on the bridge were a factor. Are you suggesting that random people are going to the Foxconn building to jump off of it?

@brian, Gruber's opening lines on his link are: "Perhaps the problem isn’t Foxconn but China." I think we all know what he was trying to get across and why he was quoted in this article.

Don't quote John Gruber. Gruber would throw his own mother off a building for Apple. 13 people throwing themselves off a building in the same exact way is not statistical normal in any situation. What is the average age of these people committing suicide across China? Are they employed? Do they take drugs? Do they have families? Are the mentally unstable? You can't just say X% of people kill themselves. There's more to it. They are a certain kind of person. People don't just jump off buildings randomly in order to fulfill stats. Why did these people jump? If the reason is disproportionately because of their work conditions then that is the statistically relevant number.

Microsoft CEO Ballmer says Windows 7 sales are double its predecessors'

The Engadget commercial contest!

Film Student, the only way you know how to argue is to say two wrongs make a right. First you say its right that artists dont get paid because bloggers don't. Actually, they do. Then you say its ok that artists don't get paid because essayists don't. Both an essay contest and an ad contest are wrong. You cant defend one with the other. Plus, this is not about creating easy filler material, this is about creating an ad to specifically increase revenue and readership for a major corporation. If this was a blog like Daddytypes.com thats user owned i wouldnt bitch. But AOL? If you want to be taken advantage of by a billion dollar corp thats your mistake to make.

The Engadget commercial contest!

I love these people who only value their own work, and not that of others. I'm not in advertising, but I am freelance animator. If this was anything but a "creative" job people would laugh at the very idea of 20 or even 100 people doing a lot of hard work and only 1 of them getting paid (not even well) for it. Artists should get picked based on their portfolio and price and then get paid fairly - t-shirts or tv ads.

BTW, to "Film Student", engadget bloggers DO get paid. They also get free stuff to review, plane ticket and lodging for events, etc. They brag about it all the time. Do you think they'd do this for AOL for free? Then why should we?
