ESRB approves Mario RPG, 12 more VC titles

Nov 8th 2006 10:31PM (Joystiq)
All of these games can be played with Nintendo controllers on emulators ($20 for a SNES-to-USB adaptor is the best gaming investment ever); additionally, most HDTV's have a vga port, so these games can be played on a living room tv. That being said, I'll still be shelling out for most of the VC titles. Why? Because they have the Nintendo magic. Because I'm a Nintendo zombie. Because Mario 64, Super Metroid, and Ocarina of Time might be the three best video games of all time.

Mortal Kombat on XBLA in November, reveals Midway

I'd get excited for this, but then I remember the sting of betrayal I felt after paying $10 for a less than perfect SFIIHF with severe control issues.

Mag wars: Nintendo Power vs. the rest

Apr 4th 2006 2:21PM (Joystiq)
Nintendo has done something the other console contenders haven't--suffused their fanbase with a rabid devotion. I am a Nintendo fanboy. Why? Because Nintendo's focus on bright, identifiable franchises has left a lasting impression on my (no-longer-so) young mind. While it's clear that Mario and Link will never bump into each other outside of a Smash Bros. game, it's not an enormous stretch of imagination to believe that they live in the same universe, or even in the same place at different times. For this reason, the "Nintendo universe" does breathe, and is real for millions of people like me. We know who Mario is, and were he to be placed in a GTA-style game, we'd know why he wouldn't belong.

Turbo Grafx Revolution wish list

Dungeon Explorer.
Street Fighter.
As to Keith Courage: it's definitely a talked-down title, and compared to other pack-in games it doesn't measure up. What it did have, though, is a really unique art style and some damn gorgeous sprite work.

Poll: are you a fat gamer?

Mar 3rd 2006 8:58AM (Joystiq)
The BMI hasn't been used widely as a measure of fitness for fifteen years. Like the instructions on the linked page said, bodybuilders (defined fifteen years ago as someome who lifts weights regularly) shouldn't take the BMI test--which brings me to two points:
1. Since the percentage of people lifting weights (and I'm not talking actual bodybuilders, here) has increased in the last fifteen years, it's time to put the damn BMI to rest already.
2. Despite evidence touting games' promotion of problem-solving abilities, games still can't instill in people the ability to read directions. Look at the comments of people who say they work out (but took the test anyway), and ask yourself, "maybe being overweight isn't the typical gamer's most immediate problem?"

Paris Hilton shills for Nintendo; Microsoft flattered

Good Charlotte. Paris Hilton.
Luminaries?
Sure, the marketing world is comprised for the most part by a collection of total assclowns, but come on.
