Mar 5th 2008 1:24AM (Joystiq Xbox)D&D creator Gary Gygax passes away at 69
Mar 5th 2008 1:22AM (Joystiq Xbox)Without him, and without D&D, I have to wonder if the RPG video game and MMORPG genre would exist at all? Whatever the case, his influence and the influence of the game he co-created, cannot be understated.
I had e-mailed back and forth with Mr Gygax a couple of times over the last ten years, and he was always quite gracious, especially considering what an icon he was. If he had an ego, you wouldn't have known it. He seemed every bit a splendid human being.
He shall be missed.
GripShift and Arkadian Warriors releasing this week
Dec 10th 2007 11:41PM (Joystiq Xbox)I can see yer points regarding paying the $10 for the 3 maps. It might be excessive, and a few(?) months down the road, they'll be free anyway. They are optional, and the good thing is, opting out doesn't keep ya from having fun with the rest of the maps online.
That said, I don't have a major issue with the price (though I always wish things were cheaper), and I'll be picking them up. My buddies and I will certainly get our $10 of entertainment out of it -- considering I hope to have hours upon hours of multiplayer on the new maps -- for me at least, it works out. But I'm a big Halo fan already, and $10 for a little more variety is cool. Still wish I was getting some old faves from Halos 1 & 2, but I'll live.
It's all a matter of perceived value, of course. I know that on the PC-side, folks often get multiplayer maps for free, so this might be especially hard to swallow for them. For me, though... no biggie. $10 is the price of three Starbucks, one movie ticket, a couple magazines, etc. I know these will give me as much entertainment as at least two of those (the movie ticket... it just depends).
Guess I'll find out this week if the maps are fun or not.
